Essential Job Functions Meets and instructs students in assigned locations and times. Designs coherent instruction based on subject matter, current practices, students, community, and curriculum goals. Plans instruction to achieve objectives aligned with the Virginia Standards of Learning and division guidelines. Prepares for classes and demonstrates lesson preparation upon request of the building administrator. Diagnoses individual, group, and program needs and plans appropriate use of time, materials, and resources to match abilities and needs. Evaluates students’ progress; provides prompt, specific feedback; maintains records and prepares progress reports. Uses assessment strategies and instruments to make short‑term and long‑range instructional decisions. Administers standardized tests per established procedures. Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations. Documents student learning gains with appropriate assessment instruments. Demonstrates understanding of curriculum, subject, and current instructional practices. Creates learning experiences that make the subject matter meaningful for all students. Education and Experience Required Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) or endorsement(s) required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the School Board. Acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable. Preferred Currently holds a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License in a specific endorsement area(s). Prior teaching experience within a public school system.
