Nursing AssistantThe Nursing Assistant functions as a member of the nursing care team and assists licensed nursing staff in the care of patients/residents receiving preventative, acute, subacute, chronic, maintenance, and hospice care. The distinguishing factor is that patient/resident assignments typically involve more complex nursing needs which can vary within a range of predictable to unpredictable requirements. Preferred experience includes direct patient care, long-term care, and acute care.Duties include but not limited to the below:GS-03:Learn to appropriately utilize glucose monitoring machine to collect and document appropriate glucose readings for assigned veteran.Maintain a positive therapeutic relationship by displaying respect for human dignity with patient, families and/or significant others utilizing learned communication skills.Begin to utilize observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording patient/resident observations.GS-04:Perform nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures to care for the veteran for such procedures but not limited to: enemas, catheterization, colostomy care, skin care simple dressing, application of braces and prosthetic devices.Becoming proficient with maintaining positive therapeutic relationships by displaying respect for human dignity with patient, families and/or significant others utilizing communication skills.Utilize observation skills for data collection, reporting and recording.Participate in patient centered conferences/shift reports, and contributing information for the development and review of the nursing care plan.Maintain a therapeutic environment for patients according to established procedures and policies by reporting actual or potential accidents, fire hazards and faulty equipment.GS-05:Participates in treatment team meetings for resident care planning.Enters information about the residents' condition in the chart, utilizing appropriate formats.Participates in maintaining a clean, safe environment for the patient/resident.Removes defective equipment, reports hazards, observes safety regulations, contributes to infection control, and utilizes proper aseptic technique in performance of duties.Makes observations of subtle changes in resident's condition, i.e. behavior shifts, mood, skin coloring, appetite, etc. and acts accordingly within the NA's assigned role.Performs nursing procedures within scope of practice and according to policies and standard procedures to care for the veteran for such procedures but not limited to: enemas, catheterization, colostomy care, skin care simple dressing, application of braces and prosthetic devicesServes as the unit safe patient handling liaisonFunctions as a member of the unit base counselManages distributed patient behavior and by appropriately intervenes and request assistant from other health care members.Appropriately initiates basic life support, takes actions appropriate action.Work Schedule: 12-HOUR DAY OR NIGHT SHIFTS with weekends and holidays. May be required to work other shifts, be on call, work weekends and/or holidays as patient care and needs of the service require.
