Faculty Position Overview
Our organization is currently looking for a Board Eligible/Board Certified Gastroenterologist to join the team at the School of Medicine. This role will involve practicing within the facilities of UT Health East Texas.
Position OptionsWe offer two distinct faculty roles:
- Traditional Inpatient/Outpatient Position: No advanced training required.
- Hospitalist Position: Advanced training is necessary.

About the RoleYou will be part of a collaborative team of Gastroenterologists, including both traditional inpatient/outpatient specialists and GI hospitalists. Key features of the position include:
- ERCP Access: Available for those with advanced training.
- Hospitalist Schedule: 7 on/7 off, from 7 AM to 7 PM, Thursday to Thursday; 24-hour shifts with an average of 1-2 calls per week.
- Traditional GI Schedule: Monday to Friday, combining inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.
- Facilities: Four GI suites equipped with smart technology to enhance patient care.
Our providers utilize Epic EMR and Ambience AI scribe technology to streamline documentation, alleviate administrative tasks, improve patient flow, and ensure precise coding, all contributing to a better work-life balance and increased revenue.

The School of Medicine at our organization is the first medical school in East Texas and ranks as the seventh within the University of Texas System. Our mission focuses on training future healthcare professionals to address the unique needs of rural and underserved communities, particularly in East Texas.
We offer a comprehensive Graduate Medical Education program with 20 residency and fellowship training opportunities, allowing graduates to specialize in fields such as family medicine, internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, surgery, and anesthesia. Additionally, our Master of Biotechnology program provides an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes medical research and innovation, preparing students for careers in diagnostics and therapeutic development.
A new five-story, 248,000-square-foot Medical Education Building is currently under construction in Tyler's Midtown District. This facility, connected by a skybridge to UT Health Tyler, will enhance interdisciplinary education for medical students and residents and support the expansion of medical education throughout the UT Health East Texas Health System. The building is expected to be completed by fall 2025.
