Lead Substation Project Engineer

Description Lead Substation Project Engineer at Leidos. Location: Chicago, IL. Occasional client travel required. Candidates must be located in the United States. Responsibilities Execute substation physical and P&C projects. Communicate effectively with internal team and clients to meet project needs. Perform quality control checks on substation physical and P&C design projects. Read and design substation drawings including one-line, three-line, schematics, wiring, plan‑section, conduit and grounding drawings. Create and verify bill of materials for substation physical and P&C projects. Create and verify estimates and schedules for various projects. Provide project lifecycle support from scoping to final design and energization. Apply client standards to implement design. Collaborate with designers/drafters to produce required drawings for each project. Provide engineering support during construction. Maintain compliance with quality control, safety, project scope, schedule, and budget. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field with 6+ years of substation design experience. Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients. Ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Collaborator and leader competent in team environments. Self‑starter capable of working independently with minimal direction. Strong analytical skills and proven problem solving in both team and independent settings. Experience supervising engineers, designers, or drafters. Experience collaborating with EPC firms or other project developers. Preferred Experience Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. Professional Engineer (PE) license. Experience with bus calculations. Experience with relay settings. Experience with grounding studies, lightning protection, and lighting studies. Experience with AC and DC calculations. Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS. Experience using CAD tools. Master’s degree in related field. Field testing/commissioning experience.
