The Foundry Ministries, Inc.

Job Description

Job Description

The Foundry Mission:

The Foundry Ministries exists to restore hope and rebuild lives through Christ-centered recovery.

The Foundry Vision:

Permanently transformed lives through Christ-centered ministries.

Counselor Position Summary:

The Counselor is responsible for providing Biblically-based pastoral counseling for male program participants of The Foundry Farm to help the participants end the cycle of addiction.

The Counselor must hold to the mission, vision, and core values of The Foundry. The Counselor must be willing to sign The Foundry's Statement of Faith. The Counselor reports directly to the Foundry Farm Director and the Director of Counseling and upholds the Board of Directors' policies. The Counselor's responsibilities include the duties defined in this responsibility description.

Responsibility Description

Counseling Responsibilities:

· Conduct and document twice-monthly individual counseling sessions with each participant.

· Ongoing review and encouragement of participant Genesis Process Relapse Prevention Plans.

· Initiate, review, and approve Phase 4 transition/home plans.

· Complete, discuss, and document phase evaluations promptly.

· Phase meeting attendance and participation.

· Document counseling notes, which include S.M.A.R.T. goals, using program participant management software.

· Discuss and review initial F.A.S.T.E.R. Scale completion using program participant management software.

· Present and review the initial False Belief Questionnaire using program participant management software.

· Initiate and review the Genesis Assessment parts 1-4 using program participant management software.

· Verify, review, and discuss submitted F.A.S.T.E.R. Scales using program participant management software.

· Respond to ministry communications in less than one (1) business day.

· Conduct same-day data entry utilizing the ministry's program participant management software.

· Maintain 42CFR Confidentiality standards. Ensure that confidentiality is maintained on an interagency need-to-know basis. Don't discuss participants with other participants. It is their story to tell!

· Document spiritual milestones in participant management software (salvations and baptisms).

· Facilitate conflict resolution. Adults speak to each other - Not about each other.

Counseling Best Practices - Assist the Directors:

· Serve as the participant's advocate. Listen to their hearts. Meet their needs. Love the individual.

· Maintain a safe, transparent, and healing environment based on grace, truth, and love. Encourage trust and authenticity without fear.

· Embrace accountability, leading to self-evaluation and personal change. Empower lasting change and discourage dependency.

· Teach and mentor program participants at every opportunity using Biblical precepts and direct scriptural references. Refrain from personal opinions.

· Build healthy, loving, and compassionate relationships with program participants while establishing healthy and safe boundaries. Don't make decisions for people.

· Remain vigilant of the warning signs of co-dependency. Our worth and identity come from Christ, not our performance, results, or metrics.

· Identify participants who require specialized counseling, healing, or spiritual deliverance. Don't address issues that you are not qualified to handle. If in doubt, don't. Partner with the Directors.

· Pray with program participants.

· Start and end sessions on time. It shows respect and sets boundaries.

· Create a clean and organized conversation space. It feels safe and minimizes distractions. Place electronics on "do not disturb" mode or silence them.

· Develop and protect healthy boundaries. Don't share detailed information about your personal life with participants. Never alone behind a locked or visually inaccessible location.

· Facilitate counselor-guided conversations. Talk less and listen more. Watch your and the participant's body language and tone. Be comfortable with moments of silence. Ask open-ended questions to generate conversation. Ask closed-ended questions to narrow conversations.

Case Management - Assist The Foundry Farm Director and Program Manager:

· Staff scheduling and campus coverage - program participants don't supervise themselves.

· Make legal appointments and communicate with appropriate officials. The Counselor represents The Foundry and not the program participant in legal matters.

· Conduct self-harm assessments as necessary.

· Evaluation of workbook completion and study group engagement.

· Data accuracy (same-day data entry) and data accuracy reports.

· Assess the information gathered during intake to determine the services appropriate for the program participant.

· Network with individuals, agencies, services, and other resources within a planned framework of action to achieve the goals of the life-recovery process.

· Provide social services resources to meet program participant needs.

· Develop and maintain statistics and reports as requested.

Spiritual Enrichment:

· Facilitation classes, study groups, Genesis Change groups, and peer groups.

· Develop messages and present them at the chapel and worship services.

Education and Training:

· Personal and professional continued education.

· Complete Discipleship Training Class.

· Attain or maintain professional certifications, licenses, and supervision.

· Participate in organizational meetings and training events.

· Participate in safety training and campus protocols to assist staff and participants in an emergency. Training and drills include, but are not limited to, confidentiality laws, suicide/self-harm assessment, bloodborne pathogen protocol, driver training, and emergency responses, such as fire, severe weather, hostile intruder, and overdose reversal.
