The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full-time vacancy available for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. Summary: To perform journeyman level diagnostic and repair work on fleet equipment to ensure its serviceability. YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS: Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education. Other information: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 4 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in automotive mechanics, heavy equipment technology, or mechanically repairing and servicing heavy equipment. License/Certification: Valid driver’s license Other Requirements: Shall provide own standard assortment of automotive mechanic tools through 1”, 26 mm diameter and 1/2” drive, test light, and basic digital multi meter. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the Department of Transportation. Offers of employment are conditional upon the individual obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License medical card unless the candidate is currently employed by the State of New Hampshire. Must receive a negative result on pre-employment urinalysis drug screen in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and US DOT requirements. Must be able to lift/carry material weighing up to 50 lbs. on an intermittent basis. Frequent climbing, reaching, twisting, bending, squatting, etc. May be working in inclement weather or temperature extremes. Must have a telephone or acceptable means of communication and be available 24 hours per day. Trainee Option: Candidates with an equivalent combination of 3+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school, or candidates that do not hold the required Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) but otherwise satisfy the minimum requirements, may be considered and hired in 'trainee status’ for this position. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of apprenticeship training (8,000 hours) in automotive service and repair, heavy equipment technology or related field. Possession of Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with air brakes.
