The Opportunity The Packaging Engineering Manager is directly responsible for managing the work of the Packaging Engineers, ensuring that they are on track to meet the department and company goals. He/she is responsible for the success of key projects with key customers, resulting in additional business or meeting customer expectations. How you will impact Smurfit Westrock Packaging Solutions Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department. Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, approving expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Assign projects to appropriate team members to ensure success. Monitor and achieve the meeting of our cost savings commitments to our customers. Direct and manage multiple projects with key customers while ensuring their success. Experience managing relationships with customers. Make day‑to‑day decisions that align with department budgetary guidelines. Review and approve PTO. What you need to succeed Bachelor’s degree in package engineering or a similar field. Twelve (12) or more related years of work experience required. Two (2) or more years of related corrugated packaging experience required. Supervisory experience managing packaging engineers in a creative environment. Expertise utilizing Artios CAD or similar CAD software packages. Past progressive career path. Managing people – includes staff in planning, decision‑making, facilitating and process improvement; takes responsibility for subordinates' activities; makes self available to staff; provides regular performance feedback; develops subordinates' skills and encourages growth; fosters quality focus in others; improves processes, products and services. Fluency in English required, verbal and written. Ability to identify issues and communicate with the team or management.
