United Way Miami, Inc. is hiring a Director, Education and Intervention to join our team. As a Director, Education and Intervention , you will be responsible for ensuring the implementation of high-quality teaching and learning practices that promote positive developmental and school readiness outcomes for all children, including children with disabilities and suspected developmental delays. The Director ensures compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards and organizational policies. Working collaboratively with the Vice President of the Center for Excellence, this position leads program planning, continuous quality improvement, data-informed decision-making, and staff development to strengthen classroom quality and comprehensive services across the partnership.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Planning and Management
- Provide strategic leadership for School Readiness, Child Development, and Early Intervention services.
- Develop and monitor annual work plans, program goals, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards and requirements.
- Lead the education components of self-assessment, federal reviews, and corrective action planning.
- Develop policies and procedures related to education and intervention services.
- Lead implementation of curriculum with fidelity across all partner sites.
- Oversee coaching systems for Education Specialists.
- Monitor classroom quality using approved observation tools.
- Lead implementation and monitoring of School Readiness Goals.
- Monitor child assessment practices and child outcome data.
- Support professional development plans based on monitoring results and identified needs.
- Oversee implementation of interventions:
-Ensure timely referral, evaluation, IFSP/IEP implementation, and collaboration with Early Steps and Local Education Agencies.
-Promote inclusive practices and individualized services for children with disabilities or suspected delays.
-Monitor intervention services, including the mental health contract.
Human Resources
- Directly supervise Education Specialists and the Manager, EHS Compliance.
- Conduct reflective supervision, performance evaluations, onboarding, and professional development.
- Support recruitment, retention, succession planning, and performance management.
- Approve PTO.
- Supervise all staff providing Training and Technical Assistance to the Early Head Start Child Care Partners in the areas of Education and Early Intervention.
- Responsible for the assignment of sites to all Education Specialists and Intervention Specialists.
- Manage staff, consumer, and public grievances according to policies and procedures.
- Ensure all Education Specialists complete a Coaching Certificate within a year of employment.
- Responsible for tracking the implementation of the plan for the use of GOLD.
Data Management, Monitoring and Continuous Quality Improvement
- Lead the collection, analysis, interpretation, and use of education, classroom quality, coaching, intervention, and child outcome data.
- Monitor curriculum fidelity, classroom quality, child assessments, school readiness outcomes, and intervention services to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Partner with the Director of Family Engagement and Health to ensure the timely completion, accuracy, and validation of the Program Information Report (PIR).
- Collaborate with the Director of Family Engagement and Health in planning and implementing the annual Self-Assessment process.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Family Engagement and Health in preparing the Annual Report by integrating child, family, health, and education outcomes.
- Ensure effective utilization of ChildPlus, Teaching Strategies GOLD, classroom quality observation tools, and other program data systems.
Health, Safety, Licensing
- Collaborate with the Director of Family Engagement and Health to ensure education practices support children's health, safety, and well-being.
- Ensure classrooms comply with licensing, accreditation, and Head Start requirements
Teamwork
- Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect with co-workers, assuming a fair share of work and demonstrating initiative.
- Lead and supervise the Resource Specialist and Intervention Supervisor team through communication, collaboration, and discussion of individual staff needs, partners' needs, and curriculum planning.
- Maintains UWM Vice President and Senior Director of all incidents and changes pertaining to the program and partnership sites.
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Family Studies. Master’s Degree preferred. 15 Professional Development (In-service) hours per year, including CPR.
Experience Requirements: Three or more years of experience in Head Start or Early Head Start programs, including supervisory experience overseeing professional staff.
Technology Requirements: Proficiency with using word-processing software in a Windows environment and familiarity with spreadsheet software and relational database commands and reports. Knowledge of modern web browsers.
Other Essential Knowledge/Skills: Must be knowledgeable of local, state, and federal child care licensing requirements. Must be knowledgeable of basic principles and practices of program management and staff supervision; Knowledge of Early Head Start programs and Performance Standards. Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal planning; Ability to gather and analyze data and write concise, accurate reports as well as grant applications; Ability to utilize and provide reflective supervision; Able to process and protect confidential information in a professional manner. Able to understand, analyze, interpret, and develop policies and procedures according to government mandates and organizational practices. Must have excellent command of the English language and grammar, both written and verbal.
