Custodian

CustodianPerforms a variety of routine custodial functions for the Pierce County Library System; cleans and maintains assigned buildings, facilities, and/or office areas; and performs other related duties as assigned. This class is the entry-level position in the Custodial job series. Positions at this level work under close supervision and perform basic custodial tasks.Essential functions include delivering high-quality, customer-focused services; disinfecting, cleaning, and maintaining restroom facilities; cleaning library, offices, work areas, meeting rooms, study rooms, coffee bars, and/or the staff lunch room; sanitizing drinking fountains, kitchen sinks, counter tops, microwaves, table tops, and desks; vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning hard surface floors; spot cleaning carpets; dusting fixtures, furniture, and other hard surface areas; cleaning internal and external building windows; emptying trash cans and recycling bins; disposing of trash in outside holding bins; setting-up and taking down meeting rooms; assisting with routine building maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, cleaning exterior building areas, and monitoring parking lots; demonstrating punctuality and regular and consistent attendance; bringing matters of public concern regarding waste, inefficiency, corruption, discrimination, and safety to the attention of Library Management; accurately communicating the Library's policies to members of the public in all job-related contacts; positively reflecting Pierce County Library's mission, vision, and values to members of the public and to staff; and performing other duties as assigned or required.Core skills and qualities include customer focus, teamwork, communications, leadership, problem solving, change and learning, positive attitude, professional integrity, and diversity.Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include a high school diploma or equivalent, six months custodial experience, a valid Washington State Driver's License, passing a criminal background screening, the ability to work evenings and weekends on a rotating schedule, knowledge of custodial functions and principles, regulations and standards governing custodial activities, custodial equipment and cleaning chemicals, occupational hazards and safety practices relative to custodial work, customer service standards and protocols, performing a variety of routine custodial functions, ensuring the Library's facilities are appropriately cleaned and maintained, completing work orders in a timely manner, safely operating custodial equipment and handling cleaning chemicals.Technology requirements include the ability to effectively navigate basic electronic record creation and storage, use of basic office equipment, basic keyboard and alpha/numeric data entry skills, basic PC navigation skills in a windows based environment, ability to navigate, search and use basic web functions and applications, and understand and follow basic technical instruction.
