Correctional Youth Security Supervisor III - Mount View Youth Service Center

Summary of the Position This first-line supervisory position oversees Youth Services Specialists and manages staff scheduling, juvenile movement, admissions, releases, orientation, security, education, daily programming, meals, medical referrals, and customer service. The supervisor identifies performance concerns, documents and intervenes, and ensures compliance with DYS policy and QAYS standards. The role is a member of the Youth Center Leadership Team, integrating trauma responsiveness, the Sanctuary Model, and the Division’s strategic plan. Performance Management The supervisor skillfully supervises staff, monitors timeliness and quality of work, and conducts Reflective Supervision meetings monthly. Responsibilities include overseeing intake and release processes, providing coaching and training, completing performance evaluations, and maintaining CDHS and DYS documentation. Personnel and Supervision The supervisor participates in hiring, onboarding, orientation, and continuous professional development. Duties include training staff on policies, ensuring completion of mandatory training, resolving grievances, providing performance feedback, and initiating disciplinary action when required. Direct supervision is provided to YSS I and YSS II staff with monthly Reflective Supervision sessions. Safety and Security / Emergency Daily facility operations and department oversight are managed, with directives given for daily operations, counts, and incident evaluation. The supervisor responds to crises, implements Emergency Response Protocols, conducts drills, ensures sanitation standards, and oversees mechanical restraints, seclusion, and safety agreements. Programming The supervisor maintains youth center programming, ensures activity completion and documentation, and implements trauma-responsive tools and interventions. Responsibilities include leading Problem Solving Groups, Sanctuary Psycho‑educational Groups, and providing on‑floor coaching on safe correctional practices and trauma‑informed care. Documentation / Quality Control Accurate documentation of all daily operations, searches, and unit activities is supervised. The supervisor ensures compliance with documentation standards for SPM, growth plans, NDR status, seclusion, medical watch, and mandatory incident reporting. Organizational Accountability The supervisor attends mandatory training, communicates professionally, adheres to CDHS Code of Conduct and Sanctuary 7 commitments, and performs additional duties as assigned. Other Duties Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Minimum Qualifications Education / Licensure / Certification / Experience: High school diploma or GED At least two (2) years of professional experience in an occupational field related to this position Substitutions: Additional appropriate education may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
