Audit Manager

There is currently one (1) opening for an Audit Manager located at our Headquarters facility in downtown Los Angeles.

In this role, you’ll serve as an Audit Manager, combining technical expertise and leadership to manage a team of audit professionals and oversee the planning, execution, and reporting of a wide range of audit and advisory engagements. You’ll assist in shaping Metropolitan’s internal audit strategy through annual and project risk assessments, and audit planning, and by ensuring all work meets professional standards and Metropolitan requirements. This is an opportunity to play a key role in evaluating and strengthening governance, risk management practices, and internal controls, and to provide actionable and strategic insights and recommendations to management and the Board.

What You’ll Do

• Supervise and develop staff by directing, assigning, and monitoring work; coaching and mentoring; evaluating performance; and managing day-to-day personnel administration.
• Manage and perform operational, financial, IT, performance, and compliance audits, advisory engagements, and follow-up reviews following professional standards, department policy and procedures, and the Metropolitan Administrative Code.
• Manage the development of engagement objectives and scope, risk assessments, fraud assessments, data analytics assessments, engagement work programs, and confer with management on findings and recommendations.
• Oversee engagement resources, timelines, and budgets to ensure cost-effective delivery while maintaining strong client relationships.
• Assess organizational risks by evaluating governance practices, identifying potential threats, reviewing control effectiveness, and analyzing the risk of fraud.
• Verify that workpapers, sampling, data analytics, process mapping, and evidence evaluation meet professional internal auditing standards.
• Review interim/final reports and board presentations to ensure findings, root causes, value-added recommendations, and management action plans are clearly communicated.
• Assist with developing annual audit plans, risk assessments, department policies/procedures, and presentations for the Board.

Schedule: 9/80, Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday.

Hybrid: Metropolitan’s current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university majoring in accounting, business administration, information systems, or a related field and eight years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which four years must have been in a management, supervisory or lead position;

or

an advanced degree from an accredited college or university majoring in accounting, business administration, information systems, or a related field and six years of increasingly responsible relevant experience, of which four years must have been in a management, supervisory or lead position.

Relevant Experience is defined as : Progressive experience including all of the following: conducting audits; assessing internal controls and operational risks; and preparing and communicating executive-level communications such as audit reports or Board presentations.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) issued by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners
• Information technology auditing experience including applicable IT frameworks (e.g., COBIT, CIS, NIST) and/or certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM)
• Experience with an audit project management system
• Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) knowledge

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position are required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing and registrations:

Certificate(s): Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license issued by the California Board of Accountancy (active status required at time of application )

OR a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) issued by the Institute of Internal Auditors (required at time of application )

OR a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) issued by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (required at time of application ).
