Bluewater is hiring a Junior AI Engineer to help build and improve the AI systems, tools, and automations that support how our business works. This is a hands-on growth role for an early-career engineer with strong technical fundamentals, curiosity about modern AI, and the discipline to turn prototypes into dependable internal products.

You will work alongside the AI team on agents, custom tools, data-grounded AI experiences, and workflow automations. You will learn to apply leading models and frameworks to real business problems while developing the engineering habits required to ship systems that are secure, observable, testable, and useful.

This is not a prompt-only role. The right person will be excited to write code, work with data, integrate systems, debug production issues, and steadily take ownership of larger pieces of Bluewater's AI platform.

What you will do Build and improve AI-powered internal tools, agents, and workflow automations under the guidance of senior engineers and the Director of AI. Develop features that combine LLMs, structured outputs, business rules, retrieval or data grounding, tool use, and human review steps. Write Python and SQL to work with governed business data in Snowflake and support AI-enabled applications. Help create and maintain integrations with internal and third-party systems through APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and service-to-service authentication. Prototype and evaluate solutions using models and platforms such as Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini, Snowflake Cortex, and open-source or open-weight models. Help build tests, evaluation cases, tracing, monitoring, and output validation so AI workflows can be improved safely over time. Support the deployment, debugging, documentation, and ongoing improvement of production AI services and internal applications. Collaborate with business teams to understand processes, gather feedback, and translate requirements into thoughtful technical solutions. Learn and apply best practices around data access, security, privacy, safe automation boundaries, and human-in-the-loop approvals.

What you bring Required qualifications 1 to 3 years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related technical role; exceptional internships, projects, or co-op experience may be considered. Strong foundation in Python and SQL, including the ability to write readable, maintainable code and work with structured and semi-structured data. Hands-on experience building software projects, automations, data products, or LLM-powered applications through coursework, internships, professional work, or substantial personal/open-source projects. Familiarity with at least one major LLM platform or ecosystem, such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Hugging Face, or Snowflake Cortex. Basic understanding of APIs, JSON, REST services, version control, testing, and debugging. Demonstrated curiosity and ability to learn quickly in a rapidly evolving technical environment. Clear communication skills and comfort working with both technical teammates and nontechnical business partners.

Preferred qualifications Experience with Snowflake, Snowpark, dbt, data modeling, analytics engineering, or cloud data platforms. Familiarity with LLM application patterns such as retrieval-augmented generation, tool/function calling, prompt design, structured outputs, and evaluation. Experience using TypeScript, React, Next.js, or similar technologies to build internal web applications. Experience with Docker, CI/CD, cloud services, or deploying containerized applications. Experience integrating business tools through APIs or automation platforms. Contributions to an open-source project, a well-documented personal project, a hackathon project, or a technical portfolio that demonstrates thoughtful engineering work.

What success looks like In the first 90 days Build a strong understanding of Bluewater's business, data environment, AI roadmap, and development practices. Ship meaningful contributions to active AI tools, workflow automations, or data-grounded agent experiences. Become productive with the team's core stack, including Snowflake, Python, SQL, source control, and AI development practices. Demonstrate good engineering habits: asking strong questions, documenting work, testing changes, and learning from feedback.

Within 12 months Independently own well-scoped features and integrations from design through deployment and support. Reliably contribute to the team's shared agent, data, integration, and evaluation capabilities. Grow into a trusted implementation partner for business stakeholders and a strong candidate for increased engineering responsibility.
