About the role:

The Claims Specialist in the Safety Department is responsible for managing all aspects of claims related to accidents, cargo loss or damage, and liability incidents. This role involves investigating claims, coordinating with insurance providers, and ensuring timely resolution while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. The Claims Specialist plays a key role in mitigating financial losses and supporting the companys safety and compliance objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Claims Processing: Handle and process insurance claims related to accidents, cargo damage, and other incidents involving our fleet of trucks.
• Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations to gather all necessary information, including statements from drivers, witnesses, and law enforcement, to determine the validity of claims.
• Documentation: Maintain accurate and organized claim files, including photographs, reports, and correspondence, ensuring they meet FMCSA documentation requirements.
• Communication: Liaise with insurance adjusters, legal counsel, and other stakeholders to facilitate the claims resolution process, following FMCSA reporting and communication standards.
• Settlement Negotiation: Negotiate settlements with claimants or their representatives while ensuring cost-effectiveness for the company.
• Policy Compliance: Ensure that all claims are processed in compliance with company policies, industry regulations, legal requirements, and FMCSA guidelines.
• Reporting: Prepare regular reports on claim status, trends, and key performance indicators for management review, including required FMCSA reporting when necessary.
• Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service to claimants and internal stakeholders, addressing their inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelors degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field preferred).
• Experience: 2-4 years of experience in claims handling, insurance, or safety in the trucking or logistics industry.

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of transportation claims, including accident and cargo claims.
• Familiarity with FMCSA regulations and industry-specific compliance requirements.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and claims management software.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive situations diplomatically.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at the desk and working on the computer
• Must be able to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
