IT Technician

IT TECHNICIAN WIN Energy REMC is seeking a knowledgeable and dependable IT Technician to provide technical support for employees and assist with the daily operation and maintenance of the Cooperative’s technology systems. This position serves as the primary point of contact for end-user technology needs and manages the day-to-day help desk function. The IT Technician will troubleshoot hardware, software, network, and connectivity issues while supporting workstations, mobile devices, telecommunications, and other technology used throughout the Cooperative. This position will also receive structured cross-training in server, network, backup, virtualization, and security functions to provide backup support to the System Administrator. WHAT YOU’LL DO Serve as the first point of contact for employee technology questions and support requests. Manage the help desk ticket queue, including intake, prioritization, follow-up, documentation, and closure. Troubleshoot desktop, software, hardware, network, telecommunications, and connectivity issues. Escalate issues when appropriate and document the troubleshooting steps already completed. Configure and support Cooperative and personal mobile devices, including iOS and Android devices. Deploy, configure, relocate, maintain, and retire workstations, laptops, tablets, printers, and related equipment. Maintain accurate records of hardware, software, licenses, and warranty coverage. Perform routine software updates, operating system patching, endpoint protection checks, and workstation maintenance. Assist with user account administration, password resets, access rights, Active Directory, and basic Group Policy tasks. Assist with Windows servers, VMware hosts, storage systems, network monitoring, backup systems, and disaster recovery routines. Support email, telephone, wireless, VPN, remote access, security cameras, and electronic access control systems. Maintain technical documentation, support procedures, and end-user reference materials. Provide technology guidance and training to employees as needed. Participate in technology projects, testing, implementation, and post-deployment support. Complete cross-training and serve as backup to the System Administrator in designated areas. Participate in service watch, outage response, the Annual Meeting, and other Cooperative events as needed. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Network Administration, or a closely related field. Minimum of 3 years of hands-on IT experience in end-user support, desktop administration, or IT operations. CompTIA A+, VMware, Server+, Network+, or Security+ certifications are preferred. Experience with Microsoft operating systems and applications, including Microsoft 365. Working knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file and print services. Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, VLANs, basic routing, firewalls, cabling, and troubleshooting. Experience with computer hardware, peripherals, endpoint protection, patch management, backup solutions, and monitoring tools. Strong troubleshooting skills and sound judgment in determining when an issue should be escalated. Ability to explain technical information clearly to employees with different levels of technical knowledge. Dependability, integrity, professionalism, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to manage changing priorities and work effectively with minimal supervision. Valid driver’s license required. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is normally scheduled Monday through Friday and works primarily in an office environment. Occasional field work at remote facilities and tower sites is required. Evening, weekend, and after-hours work may be necessary for service watch, outages, meetings, special events, and project deadlines. Some travel for training and seminars may be required, including occasional overnight stays. The position requires frequent desk and computer work, along with walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, reaching, and working around technology equipment.
