High school diploma or GED . Technical school training or three (3) years of HVAC employment/field experience. EPA Section 608 Universal Certification. Working knowledge of HVAC controls, electrical systems, and refrigeration principles. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control-related equipment issues. Ability to read and follow technical instructions and maintenance procedures. Available and willing to work after-hours on-call duty, on a rotating basis with other shop personnel Currently hold or have the ability to obtain a drivers license within 90 days of employment? Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a university, government, or large institutional environment. Experience with Building Automation Systems ( BAS ), such as Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric. Additional certifications such as HVAC Excellence, NATE , or trade licenses. Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices. Job Description The University is seeking a skilled and motivated HVAC Technician II to join our Facilities Services team. This mid-level position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration ( HVAC /R) systems across academic buildings, laboratories, residence halls, athletic facilities, and administrative spaces. Job Duties Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on HVAC and refrigeration systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose issues involving chillers, boilers, pumps, air handlers, VAV systems, cooling towers, and building automation systems ( BAS ). Install, replace, and repair HVAC equipment, motors, controls, thermostats, and related components. Monitor and adjust building environmental systems to maintain occupant comfort and operational efficiency. Respond to service requests and emergency maintenance calls in a timely manner. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment condition. Assist with campus energy conservation initiatives and sustainability programs. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with applicable safety regulations, codes, and University policies. Collaborate with other Facilities Services personnel, contractors, and campus stakeholders.
