Senior Manager, Machine Learning Science - Bundled Products Recommendations

Position Overview Senior Manager, Machine Learning Science – Whole Trip AI team at Expedia Group. You will lead a team of ML scientists in developing and deploying ranking, recommendation, and intent‑modeling solutions for Expedia’s bundled travel products across Cars, Activities, Attach, and Packages. The role focuses on building high‑traffic, production‑grade models that enable travelers to book multi‑item trips by surfacing relevant offerings in the right context. Responsibilities Drive the end‑to‑end ML roadmap, from problem definition and data strategy to model design, evaluation, and productionization. Set and enforce best practices for experimental design, A/B testing, and causal inference to ensure statistically robust, interpretable ML‑driven decisions. Partner with data engineering and software engineering teams to build scalable, resilient, observable ML services integrated into APIs and data pipelines. Mentor, coach, and develop ML scientists, fostering a culture of scientific rigor, continuous learning, and high impact delivery. Apply AI/ML concepts and workflows to real‑world products, integrating enterprise‑grade AI/ML solutions across multiple lines of business. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (technical degree preferred). 8+ years of relevant professional experience and 3+ years of people‑management experience. Strong expertise in modern machine‑learning methods for ranking and recommendation with solid programming skills. Proven experience leading end‑to‑end ML initiatives: problem definition, data preparation, feature engineering, model development, offline evaluation, experimentation, and production integration. Demonstrated ability to manage or technically lead ML scientists or applied researchers across multiple services or product domains. Preferred Qualifications Experience with natural‑language search, text refinement, and multimodal recommendations (images, metadata, unstructured text). Track record delivering large‑scale ML solutions in high‑traffic, data‑rich environments. Experience designing and operationalizing experimentation platforms, advanced measurement frameworks, or causal inference methodologies. Leadership experience raising the technical bar for ML teams through publication‑quality analyses, reusable modeling frameworks, rigorous data and model quality practices, and documentation. Ability to advance team capabilities with emerging AI/ML techniques and tooling, including GenAI and agentic techniques. Benefits & Compensation Location: Seattle, WA.
