POPULATION SERVED

The position does involve direct patient care for a population of patients ages 18 and older. Age specific experience and/or special training and/or expertise is required to serve this population.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Restorative Nursing Assistant (RNA) is responsible for providing restorative nursing care to ensure patients attain or maintain the highest possible physical ability. The RNA provides care to patients that are designed to strengthen muscle, assist with mobility, promote independence and prevent functional declines. This is in accordance with Central Valley Specialty Hospital’s policies and procedures, our current standards of care and applicable state/federal regulations.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

The RNA must possess current Certified Nursing Assistant status in accordance with statutory requirements. CPR certification. The RNA must have completed additional instruction and training in restorative care procedures and have appropriate documentation as evidence contained in their employment file.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The job requires good physical health. Physical activities may include lifting, rotating and assisting patients who are partially or totally dependent for moving about. Other activity requirements of the RNA are stooping, bending, standing and walking most of an eight-hour shift. RNA’s must be willing and able to work a flexible shift. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The RNA must possess and demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of safe, restorative nursing care practices. The RNA must also be able to verbalize and demonstrate appropriate knowledge of good body mechanics, as well as the ability to document the effectiveness of the restorative care received by the patient. Other duties of the RNA include:

• Understands and agrees with Central Valley Specialty Hospital’s philosophy and goal to maintain improve and/or enhance each patient’s quality of care and quality of life.
• Performs active Range of Motion (AROM) and Passive Range of Motion (PROM) in a safe manner of patient’s as assigned by the Director of Rehab/Physical Therapist and the patient’s overall plan of care.
• The RNA will ambulate patients as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator/Therapist while utilizing appropriate equipment or devices in a safe manner.
• The RNA will follow treatment plan for patients that were given to RNA by Rehab Services Dept. along with 1:1 training prior to patient transition from Rehab Dept.
• Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and post dialysis weights on all patients.
• Assists patients with getting out of bed per nursing and rehab requests.
• Assist patients to apply and remove splints or prostheses as assigned by Clinical Coordinator/Therapist and the patient’s overall plan of care.
• Encourages the patient to perform tasks for him/herself as appropriate and as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator/Therapist and the patient’s overall care.
• Provides good body alignment, positioning devices and contracture padding as appropriate and as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator/Therapist and the resident’s overall care.
• Reports to the Clinical Coordinator/Therapist any adverse conditions experienced by the patient during the provision of restorative nursing care including, but not limited to, pain.
• Monitors and assists with the performance of Activities of Daily Living ADL’s to promote patients involvement to the highest extent possible without patient decline unless the decline is documented as unavoidable.
• Assists with keeping Rehab room clean after use.
• Perform all duties and functions as listed in the Certified Nursing Assistant job description.
• Perform other duties and assignments as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator/Therapist.

8. Safety Techniques – Maintains current knowledge of all aspects of the facility’s safety program by attending safety-related training as mandated upon hire and thereafter as required by facility.
9. Modified Work – Accepts modified work assignments after receiving the physician’s release to return to work following an accident/ injury. 
10. Follows Prescribed/Recommended Treatment – Follows the prescribed/recommended treatment given by treating physician(s) after an accident/injury.
11. EDUCATION – Participates in required in-services and educational programs on an ongoing basis.
12. ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY – Follows all facility guidelines outlining standards of attendance and punctuality. Responsible for reporting to and completing work at assigned times.

UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS

Universal precautions will be observed in order to prevent contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials. Under circumstances in which differentiation between body fluid types is difficult or impossible, all body fluids shall be considered potentially infectious materials. All blood or other potentially infectious materials will be considered infectious regardless of the status. The category shown below is designed to communicate the risk of exposure for this particular position.

• Category I

Tasks involve light contact with moist body substances, non-intact skin or mucous membranes. Department procedures define and require use of minimum protective measures to perform the task.

• Category II

Tasks involve no contact with moist body substances, non-intact skin or mucous membranes; however, employment may require performing unplanned Category I task. Appropriate protective measures are readily available.

• Category III

Tasks of employment involve no contact with moist body substance, non-intact skin or mucous membranes.

The employee must have the ability to perform essential functions without posing a “direct threat” in the workplace.
