Summary/Objective:

The Controls Engineer will work in a team enviroment to develop products from concept stage to production ready. Support existing production products through VAVE and Continuous Improvement efforts.


Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Independently designs complete appliance electrical systems and controls ranging from simple products to complex systems to satisfy customer requirements. Organizes electrical design plan and technical strategy to assure successful execution from concept to launch.
2. Communicates design intent through creation of robust engineering or product specifications and along with the documented spec, provides the necessary guidance to designers and development partners for successful design execution. modeling, drawing, and simulation.
3. Directs, coordinates, supports and/or audits manufacturing and electrical system and controls assembly activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications and customer expectations.
4. Provides electrical/controls technical leadership for project teams. Project focused efforts to ensure that technical solutions are delivered to support overall project needs. May mentor junior engineers.
5. Directs third party component integration and compatibility to assure product performance in specified operating environments.
6. Utilizes knowledge and expertise on industry standards and regulatory requirements such as UL, CSA and FCC to lead development as well as teach team in this area.
7. Writes and reviews electrical/controls test plans and procedures. Predicts test performance based on sound engineering practices. Directs personnel in fabrication of related test equipment, and develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
8. Proactively investigates and solves problems that affect scrap, warranty/reliability and product cost for new and/or existing products. Applies root cause analysis. Drives and communicates design/BOM changes according to revision control standards
9. Researches and analyzes data such as internal customer product proposals, drawings/specifications, application, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application considering cost, time, and other factors.
10. Analyzes test data for viability and development of products. Directs and participates in the hands-on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts and/or pre-production builds.
11. Uses project management software. Helps create project schedule and adhere to timelines. Tracks time associated with specific tasks.
12. Demonstrate a strong commitment to LCI's safety and personnel policies
13. Works with customers to understand needs and issues, evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications

Working Conditions:

1. Primarily working indoors, office environment and manufacturing shop floor.
2. May sit for several hours at a time.
3. Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
4. Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
5. May be exposed to heat, cold and use of sharp utensils.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar technical degree is preferred.
2. Experience in Electromechanical product development.

Competencies:

1. Solid electrical and controls engineering experience; engineers electrical systems with no supervisory technical oversight.
2. Strong working knowledge of electrical and controls specifications, able to fully related detail component drawings with no assistance and can instruct others in most related topics.
3. Strong experience with NPI processes, leading technical tasks such as Risk Analysis, FMEA, PFMEA, product specification, etc.
4. Experience handling highly complex electrical/controls engineering issues and problems, drawing valid conclusions based on robust data collection and fact-based review for conclusions. Refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
5. Possesses strong working knowledge of engineering principles related to the position. Has continuously applied related engineering principles in practice and teaches others in most of the design topics related to the responsibility.
6. Experience selecting/sizing AC and DC motors, and associated drive circuitry, with emphasis on variable speed drives
7. Strong experience with troubleshooting, debug, and design modification of PCB's.
8. Experience with schematic design, and PCB layout within Altium.
9. Experience with Labview, writing test applications, and DAQ hardware.
10. Shielded and unshielded cable design experience is a plus.
11. Practical knowledge of UL, CSA, CE, FCC, IC regulatory requirements, and processes.
12. Must possess leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring skills through proven experience. May possess supervisory experience.
13. Strong team player skills; able to work well with others and support internal/external customer needs. Ability to brainstorm with a group.
14. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
15. Ability to Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role does not have any supervisory responsibility upon hiring.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member will be required to talk and hear. This position may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The Team Member may have to lift and/or move items over 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. For the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as typically found in the office environment, however, working outdoors is sometimes required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time salary position, and expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; weekend and overnight work is also necessary.


Travel:

Travel is expected for this position approximately 5/8 time per year (totla of 10-20 overnights).


Preferred Education and Experience:

1. 7-9 years of experience in related field.
2. Experience in the electrical system design of appliances and/or consumer products.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
English language is preferred for communication with other team members and internal/external resources.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
