POSITION SUMMARY The Accountant II performs professional accounting work supporting the financial operations of Tech Electronics across its Fire and Life Safety, Security, Communications and AV, and managed services business lines. This role owns general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and month-end close tasks while ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Working within the Accounting department, the Accountant II provides reliable financial data that helps leadership manage a growing systems integration business across the Midwest and Colorado. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Prepare, review, and post journal entries to the general ledger, ensuring transactions are properly classified and supported by accurate documentation. Perform monthly account reconciliations for cash, prepaid expenses, accruals, fixed assets, and other balance sheet accounts, researching and resolving discrepancies promptly. Support the month-end and year-end close process by completing assigned close tasks within established deadlines. Assist with the preparation of financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules for internal and external stakeholders. Track and record fixed assets, including capitalized equipment and vehicles used by field and installation teams, and maintain depreciation schedules. Support job costing and project accounting for installation and service contracts, helping ensure revenue and costs are recognized accurately. Reconcile intercompany and interbranch transactions across the company's Midwest and Colorado locations. Prepare and file assigned sales, use, and other transactional tax returns in coordination with applicable jurisdictions. Assist with the preparation of schedules and documentation requested by external auditors and support annual audit activities. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting accuracy, and recommend practical enhancements. Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, internal controls, and generally accepted accounting principles. Collaborate with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and operations teams to resolve accounting questions and support accurate financial records. QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required. Masters in Accounting, MBA, CPA preferred Experience Two or more years of progressive professional accounting experience, including general ledger and reconciliation work. Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and month-end close procedures. Experience using an ERP or accounting system to record and analyze financial transactions. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and lookup functions. Strong analytical skills with demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in handling financial data. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting practices. High level of accuracy and attention to detail when preparing and reviewing financial information. Ability to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues independently. Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to meet recurring deadlines. Clear written and verbal communication skills for working across departments. Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential financial information. Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheet tools. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT Primarily works in an office environment and sits at a workstation for extended periods. Frequently uses a computer, keyboard, and other standard office equipment, requiring repetitive hand and wrist motion. Occasionally lifts and moves office materials or records weighing up to 20 pounds. Communicates regularly by phone, email, and in person with staff across multiple locations.
