Tax Principal - Life Sciences

Overview Tax Principal – Life Sciences Industry – focused on growing the New England market at Baker Tilly LLP (BT), one of the fastest‑growing firms in the US. In this role you will lead the Life Sciences tax practice, build client relationships, expand the firm’s footprint, and drive new business opportunities. Responsibilities Be a trusted leader of Baker Tilly’s tax services, providing federal tax compliance and consulting services to commercial clients. Serve as a tax business advisor, leading client relationships on day‑to‑day tax matters for a range of middle‑market to multinational clients. Consult on technical matters and special projects in corporate and flow‑through taxation, accounting methods, and ASC 740. Research tax matters, respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries, and recommend client solutions. Coordinate with specialty tax practices on complex state and local, high‑net‑worth, international, research and development, and incentive matters. Oversee tax‑planning responsibilities for federal and individual clients, reviewing complex research on a wide range of tax issues related to business transactions. Provide recommendations for business and process improvements based on client operations and objectives. Manage client engagement staffing, billing and collections, ensuring client profitability targets are met. Network and build strong relationships internally and externally to acquire new clients, projects, and revenue. Participate in requests for proposals to pursue additional clients and services for the firm. Collaborate with other service‑line leadership on tax service market positioning, branding, strategy, and messaging. Invest in professional development through firm‑wide learning and development programs. Support the growth and development of team members, helping associates meet professional goals and assist in recruiting future team members. Demonstrate leadership, initiative, excellent teamwork, ethical standards, and a sense of urgency. Represent the firm at key community events, firm functions, and other meetings. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s or advanced degree desirable. Professional credentials: CPA or JD required. Experience: 15+ years providing federal tax compliance and consulting services in a professional services firm, with industry experience considered. Leadership: 5+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring, and counseling associates. Skills: Demonstrated management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project‑management, and communication skills. Client service: Ability to lead and supervise others while providing exceptional client service and maintaining ethical standards. Knowledge: Commitment to continuous learning to stay current with applicable strategies and regulatory developments. Technical: Highly developed software and Microsoft Suite skills.
