Controls Commissioning Engineer

The Controls Commissioning Engineer supports the installation, commissioning, and validation of control systems for mission-critical data centers. This role focuses on Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS), and integrated control systems, ensuring that all instrumentation, wiring, and networking function reliably and accurately. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced PLC, HMI, and SCADA technologies while contributing to a rapidly growing systems integrator in the mission-critical industry.

• Support the installation and commissioning of data center Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS).
• Verify and troubleshoot control system I/O wiring to ensure proper connectivity and signal integrity.
• Perform field calibration of instrumentation as required to maintain accurate measurements and system performance.
• Conduct loop testing of device data points to confirm that each point is correctly integrated with the SCADA system.
• Execute functional testing of control systems comprised of PLCs, HMIs, and vendor systems to validate operation and performance.
• Document testing progress, procedures, and results using spreadsheets and online tracking tools such as BIM360 and CxAlloy.
• Perform general system troubleshooting, including network issues, wiring issues, data point mapping issues, and operational issues.
• Identify, correct, and debug control system problems to ensure reliable and stable system operation.
• Collaborate with project teams and site personnel to support successful commissioning and turnover of data center control systems.

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
• Basic commissioning experience and a solid understanding of control system components, wiring, and networking.
• Experience with Rockwell PLCs.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in controls commissioning.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience with Ignition SCADA software.
• Ability to make corrections and troubleshoot or debug control systems effectively.
• Hands-on experience with PLCs and HMIs in an industrial or mission-critical environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when working with complex control systems.

• Experience working as a commissioning engineer in data centers or other mission-critical facilities.
• Familiarity with SCADA systems and integrated vendor control systems.
• Proficiency using BIM360, CxAlloy, or similar online tracking and documentation tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
• Strong written documentation skills for recording test procedures, results, and system changes.
• Willingness to travel to additional project sites as needed.
• Interest in contributing to a rapidly growing systems integrator in the mission-critical industry.

The role is based on a data center project located in Frederick, MD, supporting a mission-critical facility environment with advanced control, monitoring, and SCADA technologies. This is a long-term contract opportunity with the potential to travel to other sites as project needs arise. Candidates will typically work Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as required by commissioning schedules and project milestones. The position involves regular on-site work in an industrial data center setting, collaborating closely with project teams, construction personnel, and technical staff to ensure successful installation and commissioning of control systems.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Chester, OH.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
