RN Clinic or CST Columbus Surgery Center

Position summary: We are seeking a skilled perioperative professional to scrub and assist during a variety of surgical procedures, with primary emphasis on cataract and endoscopic cases. This role requires meticulous attention to sterile technique, reliable instrument management, and the ability to perform safely and efficiently in a high-volume surgical environment.

Key responsibilities

• Scrub and assist surgeons during cataract, endoscopic, and other ophthalmic procedures; anticipate surgeon needs and respond promptly to requests.
• Prepare, maintain, and monitor sterile surgical fields throughout procedures to prevent contamination and maintain patient safety.
• Ensure all instruments and equipment are properly sterilized, inspected, assembled, and available prior to case start; perform counts and document instrument usage.
• Support efficient operating room turnover by restocking supplies, decontaminating equipment, and coordinating with central sterile processing.
• Adhere to and promote compliance with infection control policies, occupational safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Document intraoperative events, instrument counts, and equipment issues according to facility protocols.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) with an active Nebraska license required OR Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with current certification. BLS is required for all candidates; ACLS is required for RN applicants. Prior operating room or surgical experience is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and perioperative workflow is essential.

Work environment & expectations

This position involves variable hours per week to accommodate surgical caseload; candidates must be flexible and able to work scheduled shifts, occasional on-call, and extended cases when needed. The role requires standing for extended periods, lifting and transferring supplies/equipment, and working collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing staff to deliver high-quality patient care.
