Opportunity Overview

Our organization is looking to recruit a dedicated and skilled Pediatric Critical Care Medical Director for the Children's Center at our medical facility in Sacramento. This leadership position will be responsible for managing clinical operations and driving the strategic development of the PICU/CVICU. The role involves close collaboration with hospital administration and various multidisciplinary teams to enhance patient safety, clinical quality, operational efficiency, and the overall strategic direction of pediatric inpatient services.

Practice Environment:

Our pediatric intensivists care for a diverse and medically intricate pediatric population, featuring a strong cardiovascular surgery division specializing in complex congenital heart disease and an award-winning ECMO program within a 20-bed general PICU/CVICU situated in a tertiary care children's center.

The center also encompasses:

• A 40-bed general pediatric unit

• The largest NICU in Northern California

• A comprehensive newborn nursery service

• A dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department

• Collaboration with a wide range of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists, supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes social work, integrative medicine, pediatric pharmacy, and other pediatric-focused services.

Leadership & Program Management:

• Communication & Collaboration

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, hospital staff, and administration.

  • Act as a liaison among specialties to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.

• Quality & Safety

  • Lead clinical quality initiatives and patient safety programs.

  • Oversee quality improvement efforts and ensure regulatory compliance.

• Clinical Operations:

  • Provide medical leadership and oversight to maintain high standards of care delivery.

  • Support clinical protocols, coverage models, and operational efficiency.

• Education & Training

  • Encourage education, mentoring, and professional growth for medical staff, fellows, residents, and medical students.

  • Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

• Outreach & Strategic Development

  • Participate in strategic planning for the growth and advancement of pediatric inpatient services.

  • Engage with community partners to enhance care and accessibility.

  • Represent the PICU within the organization and the community as needed.

Qualifications

• MD or DO with board certification in Pediatric Critical Care.

• Eligibility for medical licensure in California.

• Experience in Cardiac ICU and ECMO.

• Preferred minimum of 5 years of post-fellowship clinical and/or leadership experience.

• Demonstrated leadership in clinical program development, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

• Strong dedication to patient and family care, quality, and education.
