Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg RN for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level III Trauma acute care hospital, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience and proficiency with Epic EMR.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a 38-bed Med/Surg unit
• Level III Trauma facility
• Diverse patient population including adults and possibly older teens, with diagnoses such as pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory illness, and surgical cases (orthopedic, general surgery, spinal, and urology)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; must be able to manage a 1:6 assignment
• High patient turnover on days — discharges are typically followed by new admissions
• Titratable drips in use, including Heparin; set-rate drips include Bumex and Lasix
• Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; equipment includes trachs, CPAP for OSA, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen (used infrequently)
• Cardiac monitoring tech available 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
• Nursing supervisor on duty 24/7; charge nurses are available on both day and night shifts and do not typically take a patient assignment
• Nurse aides (CNA) on unit at a 1:8–1:10 ratio, capable of performing accuchecks and vital signs
• Charting via Epic EMR
• 3x12-hour day shifts per week; weekender position
• Schedule runs 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM
• No self-scheduling for travel RNs; blocked scheduling may be accommodated on occasion
• Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
• Low census/on-call cancellation policy in place
• May be required to float to the IMCU

Requirements

• Active NE or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg experience required
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Must be comfortable working a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Experience with bedside shift report required
• Candidates must reside more than 45 miles from the facility to qualify

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include bedside shift report, proactive patient rounding, responding to call lights, and collaborating effectively with CNAs
• Orientation consists of approximately 1.5 shifts
• Navy blue scrubs required
