Job Description

PHLEBOTOMIIST

This is a future opportunity!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures for inpatient and outpatient populations

• Collect and label blood, urine, and other specimens for laboratory testing

• Verify patient identity using approved patient identifiers prior to specimen collection

• Assist with specimen transport and basic processing activities

• Perform high-quality blood draws, including patients with difficult venous access

• Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and HIPAA requirements

• Accurately document procedures and patient interactions

• Communicate effectively with medical staff and patients

• Support laboratory workflow activities as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Clinical hospital setting

• Interaction with diverse patient populations, including geriatric and medically complex patients

• Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds)

• Must adhere to all VA safety, privacy, and workplace policies
