Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Inspector to support construction oversight on New York City Transit (NYCT) and MTA Capital Construction projects. The Mechanical Inspector will ensure that all mechanical systems and related construction activities comply with contract documents, applicable codes, project specifications, and MTA standards. This role is critical to maintaining safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across active transit infrastructure projects. Responsibilities Conduct daily field inspections of mechanical equipment installations, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, pumps, piping, and ventilation systems. Verify contractor compliance with approved drawings, specifications, NYC codes, and MTA standards. Monitor construction activities for adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and project requirements. Document inspection findings, prepare daily reports, and maintain accurate field records. Identify and report non-conforming work and assist with corrective actions and issue resolution. Coordinate with Resident Engineers, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders to ensure timely resolution of field issues. Review and verify materials and mechanical equipment delivered to the site for compliance with approved submittals and specifications. Attend progress meetings and provide technical input related to mechanical systems and installations. Support testing, startup, and commissioning activities for mechanical systems. Qualifications Minimum 6-8 years of experience in mechanical inspection on infrastructure, transit, or heavy civil construction projects. Familiarity with MTA/NYCT construction standards and procedures. Prior work experience on MTA, NYCT, LIRR, or Metro-North projects preferred. Experience supporting tunnel, station, or track infrastructure projects. Knowledge of transit-related mechanical systems and installations. Strong knowledge of: NYC Building Code ASME, ASTM, NFPA, and related mechanical standards Mechanical systems inspection practices Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, mechanical plans, and technical specifications. OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and field reporting/documentation tools. Compensation Disclaimer Infinite Consulting Corp. carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate's experience, education, and training. The estimated compensation range for this position is $60-65/hour, commensurate with experience and local cost of living.
