About the Position

RN – Labor & Delivery / Postpartum / Baby Unit – Night Shift – Relocation Candidates Welcome

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Baby Unit team at a Critical Access Hospital in Newport, Vermont. The ideal candidate will have strong maternal-newborn nursing experience and be comfortable caring for mothers and newborns throughout labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

The successful candidate must be flexible and willing to float to other units as needed, including providing support for overflow patients from the Progressive Care Unit (PCU).

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.
• Monitor maternal and fetal conditions and recognize changes requiring intervention.
• Support patients during labor and assist with delivery-related care.
• Provide postpartum assessments and monitor maternal recovery.
• Deliver routine and specialized nursing care to newborns.
• Educate parents on newborn care, feeding, and postpartum recovery.
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and the healthcare team to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation using Cerner EMR.
• Follow infection control, patient safety, and maternal-newborn care protocols.
• Float to other units as required, including supporting PCU overflow.
• Participate in holiday coverage and required departmental quarterly education sessions.

• Active RN license or ability to obtain the required state license upon acceptance.
• Minimum 5 years of nursing experience .
• Current BLS/BCLS, PALS, and NRP certifications required.
• AWHONN certification/training as specified by the facility.
• Strong Labor & Delivery, postpartum, and newborn care experience.
• Ability to work night shifts and float to other units as needed.
• Flexibility to work holidays as required.
• Strong clinical judgment, communication, and patient-care skills.

Schedule & Assignment Details

• Shift: Nights.
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks.
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week.
• Positions Available: 1.
• Holiday Coverage: Required.
• EMR: Cerner.
• Floating: Required, including other units and PCU overflow.
• Overtime: After 40 hours/week, at the all-inclusive pay rate + $7.
• On-Call Pager: $2/hour.
• Call-Back Rate: All-inclusive pay rate + $3, with a 2-hour minimum.
• Holiday Rate: All-inclusive pay rate + $7.
• Additional Requirement: Agency professionals must attend quarterly departmental education sessions.
