Career Center Assistant

Under the direction of the Vice Principal or other assigned administrator, perform varied technical duties related to the operation and maintenance of a student career center at an assigned school site; provide information and assistance to students concerning college, vocational and career opportunities utilizing career center resources; perform related clerical duties.

Essential duties include:

  • Perform varied technical duties related to the operation and maintenance of a student career center at an assigned school site
  • Motivate and encourage students concerning career options
  • Refer students to counselors or appropriate personnel as appropriate
  • Provide information and assistance to students concerning college, vocational and career opportunities utilizing career center resources
  • Assist students in researching college and vocational information
  • Conduct career center orientations for students and staff
  • Conduct workshops and presentations related to career development and employability skills to youth
  • Schedule speakers to confer with students concerning career opportunities
  • Update career center information
  • Compile and verify student information
  • Assist students with operating career center computer systems and software
  • Assist students with researching and obtaining scholarships, grants and loans
  • Assist students with completing forms and applications
  • Process and provide students with work permit applications
  • Assure students qualify for work permits by reviewing academic and attendance records
  • Type work permits and compile required signatures
  • Perform clerical duties related to assigned activities such as composing letters, ordering materials, duplicating materials and typing and processing forms and applications
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports related to student work permits, grades, attendance and assigned activities; establish and maintain filing systems
  • Communicate with counselors, teachers, parents, outside agencies and others to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns related to student careers
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including a calculator, copier, computer and assigned software
  • Assist in coordinating and participate in job fairs, workshops and other special events
  • Attend assigned meetings, committees and conferences

  • Interpret, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations
  • Learn District organization, operations, policies and objectives
  • Learn department and program objectives and goals
  • Perform clerical duties related to assigned activities
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Be flexible to perform work within changing priorities and possess sufficient interpersonal skill to work harmoniously with staff, students, administrators, parents and others
  • Maintain records
  • Compile and verify data and prepare reports
  • Operate a computer and assigned software
  • Be proficient in keyboarding speed and accuracy
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Meet schedules and time lines
  • Plan and organize work
  • Perform basic mathematical calculations

Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school and two years clerical experience involving frequent public contact.

Exams are required for all applicants. Qualifying exam online testing window will be open from September 1-7, 2026. Oral interviews will be held on September 10, 2026 via Zoom. Dates are tentative, but it is highly recommended that you plan your calendar accordingly. No make-up dates will be offered.
