Endoscopy Technician

Job Description ERP International is seeking full-time Endoscopy Technicians in support of Naval Medical Center San Diego, CA . Salary range: $32.00/hr to $46.00/hr. Compensation will be based on skill set, years of experience, shift, and geographic location. On‑Call Required: 1 week on approximately every 6‑8 weeks. Call Back: minimum 2‑hour call back pay. Job Specific Position Duties Core Duties Perform the full spectrum of sterile techniques, setting up surgical trays, preparing and draping patients for surgery, and assisting with post‑operative dressings. Ensure surgical packs are cleaned and packed for sterilization after every procedure, including restocking surgical supplies. Maintain a clean, safe environment for patients by actively cleaning clinical spaces, operating rooms, and medical equipment or by guiding other personnel in environmental maintenance. Clinical Functions The Contractor assists the adult and pediatric Gastroenterologist (GI) or the Surgeon in various clinical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and emergency procedures. Serves as first assistant to the physician in esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), colonoscopies, flexible sigmoidoscopies, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placements, push enteroscopy, anoscopies, small bowel push enteroscopy, peritoneoscopies (PEG), liver biopsies, single balloon enteroscopies, Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasounds (EUS), and paracentesis. The Contractor assists with all types of dilations, including Maloney dilations, wire‑guided Savary‑Gillard dilations, and endoscopic balloon dilations. Assists with esophageal or colonic stent placements and endoscopic biopsies and polypectomies. Independently sets up and performs Capsule Endoscopy (esophageal or small bowel) and 24‑hour PH studies, operating monitoring and recording devices, performing esophageal manometry, and calibrating equipment as necessary. The Contractor prepares a summary of test results and forwards the report to the physician. Serves as first assistant in specialized therapeutic endoscopic procedures such as ERCP with possible therapies including biliary stone extraction, biliary stent placement, and biliary drainage tube placements, applying specific training in the biliary system. The Contractor coordinates with Radiology to secure X‑ray and fluoroscopy rooms, serves as physician's first assistant in specialized treatment of gastrointestinal bleeding, evaluates patient condition, determines proper treatment, and sets up electrosurgery units and Argon/Plasma coagulators. The Contractor interprets physician’s instructions, draws medications, mixes solutions, injects dyes, reads graphic printouts, and sets up needles, syringes, catheters, or balloons, applying basic pharmacology knowledge. The Contractor recognizes potential problems and initiates corrective action or Basic Life Support (BLS) procedures, monitoring vital signs including pulse oximetry. The Contractor maintains, cleans, and prepares equipment, ensures proper in‑service training, and supports equipment functioning. The Contractor receives and positions patients, provides education, starts IV lines, and monitors vital signs. The Contractor calibrates equipment, operates video processors with narrow‑band imaging, and inputs data into automated systems. The Contractor keeps abreast of technical changes in gastroenterology through self‑directed literature research, continuing education, and meetings. Duties – Specific Assist physicians, nurses, and hospital corpsmen in preparing, recovering, and performing invasive Gastroenterological procedures. Prepare patients, collect pre‑operative data, provide education, start IV lines, monitor vitals, and document procedures. Assist physician with invasive endoscopic procedures, set up, clean, disinfect, store, and troubleshoot equipment, and configure computer‑based systems. Handle endoscopic accessories, apply therapeutic techniques including electrocoagulation and injection hemostasis, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure adequate supplies. Handle biopsy tissue and other materials, record and transport to pathology, coordinate with pathology for timely retrieval. Perform meticulous high‑level disinfection of endoscopes and medical devices per manufacturer and industry standards. Restock supplies at end of day and store in supply rooms. Minimum Qualifications Education: Associate’s degree. Certified Nursing Assistant or Emergency Medical Technician preferred. Experience: One year preferred. Certification: None required. CNA or EMT preferred. Life Support Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS). Security: Must pass a Government background check and obtain a Government security clearance.
