Manual QA Engineer

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Manual QA Engineer with hands-on experience validating U.S. tax calculations within Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, preferably in a high-volume retail environment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of sales tax calculations across multiple jurisdictions, validating tax-related business rules, and executing end-to-end testing of POS transactions, including sales, refunds, voids, returns, discounts, and promotions.

Basic Qualifications:
  • 7 years of Manual QA testing experience.
  • Strong experience testing retail POS applications.
  • Hands-on experience validating U.S. sales tax calculations and tax compliance requirements.
  • Solid understanding of state, county, city, and district tax calculations, tax exemptions and tax holidays, tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing, tax rounding, and jurisdictional rules.
  • Experience using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar defect-tracking tools.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
Required Skills:
  • Experience testing POS transaction flows: Sales, Returns, Exchanges, Refunds, Voids/Reversals, Discounts and Promotions, Gift Card Transactions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a large-scale retail environment.
  • Experience validating tax integrations with third-party tax engines such as Vertex, Avalara, or similar solutions.
  • Familiarity with payment processing and tender types including Credit Card, Starbucks Card, Mobile Pay, Apple Pay, GooglePay, and Gift Cards.
  • Basic SQL knowledge for backend validation.
  • Experience testing APIs using Postman or similar tools.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
Role and responsibilities:
  • Develop, review, and execute manual test cases for POS tax calculation functionality.
  • Validate U.S. sales tax calculations across federal, state, county, city, and special tax jurisdictions.
  • Test tax scenarios for beverages, food items, merchandise, gift cards, and digital transactions.
  • Verify tax behavior for discounts, promotions, coupons, loyalty rewards, and tender-specific transactions.
  • Validate tax calculations for sales, refunds, voids, returns, exchanges, and post-void scenarios.
  • Perform end-to-end testing across POS, payment processing, back-office, and reporting systems.
  • Investigate and document tax discrepancies, defects, and edge-case scenarios.
  • Collaborate with Product, Business Analysts, Developers, and Tax Compliance teams to clarify requirements and expected behavior.
  • Participate in defect triage, sprint ceremonies, regression testing, and release validation activities.
  • Create detailed test plans, test cases, test evidence, and execution reports.
