Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative SLP. The School Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing treatment for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders in a school based setting. This role supports students' communication development to enhance academic achievement, social interaction, and overall educational success. The SLP collaborates with teachers, special educators, administrators, and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with Vermont Agency of Education guidelines and federal regulations. Responsibilities include conducting evaluations, maintaining accurate documentation, delivering evidence-based interventions, and monitoring student progress. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, and a commitment to inclusive education practices. Knowledge of state and federal special education laws, including IDEA, is essential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Integrates current best practices and research into the education of each student to assure compliance with state and federal rules and regulations, and to provide effective educational programming and services. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of assigned students including: intellectual, social, and emotional characteristics of age group; students' varied approaches to learning; student skills and knowledge; student interests and cultural heritage; economic and cultural influences; students' family, school and community context. Serves as liaison person to assure the successful transition of assigned students from school to school, or classroom to classroom. Uses assessment information to develop a standards-based Individual Education Program for those students who qualify for such services. Researches, coordinates and utilizes available school and community resources and outside agencies to ensure proper delivery of students' IEP (e.g., OT/PT, behavior specialist). Plans, develops, and monitors and/or delivers extended school year programs for identified students to assure an effective educational program. Provides technical assistance to summer tutors, as needed (if applicable). Administers and/or coordinates a thorough assessment in communication and language skills using a variety of techniques, including standardized tests, rubrics, checklists, curriculum-based measures, developmental scales, observations, behavior objectives, etc. Confers with parents, school counselors, classroom teachers, administrators, and other professionals as needed to determine proper assessment tools and procedures, and to discuss evaluation results. Interprets findings to determine program eligibility and need for services, and to assess student progress. Creates and maintains an environment of respect and rapport. Coordinates services and assures productive, effective, and efficient use of assigned paraprofessional (if applicable). Determines appropriate social behavior, pragmatic language, identifies students'competencies in their daily living skills, and develops and implements an intervention plan. Identifies and implements appropriate assistive technology devices and other adaptive or augmentative systems that will enhance student communication and accessibility to learning. Provides a safe learning environment for all students. Provides academic support, social skills training and other direct services to assigned students individually and in small/large groups (both outside and within the regular classroom) as decided by team members, using the recommendations of the most current written evaluation report and IEP. Communicates/collaborates with parents to keep families informed of the instructional program and individual student progress; and engages families to help meet the educational needs of the student Collaborates with classroom teachers to: select, design/modify classroom instruction (including learning activities, instructional groupings, lesson plans, educational materials, and assessments for assigned students) designed to promote the academic, vocational, and social development needs of students, adhering to accommodations, as appropriate to use a range of progress monitoring tools to regularly evaluate individual student's progress, and adjusts approaches, interventions, and supplementary instruction depending on student progress. To provide feedback on student progress to parents, students, and other professionals, as needed or required. Assists with the integration of assigned students into regular classroom settings using the concepts of inclusion and least restrictive environment. Participates in EST functions, including meetings, referral process, screening referred students, providing supplemental support, and consulting services, as requested. Prepares and maintains accurate, timely, complete, effective and confidential student records and related reports as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations. Maintains and provides information regarding schedules, Child Count, Medicaid billing and any other mandated state reporting in a timely manner and consistent with policies and procedures of the supervisory union. Evaluate eligibility for special education services with regard to communication and language skills. Help to evaluate learning environments and provide suggestions and strategies to address student specific needs. Observes federal, state, and local policies and regulations in the delivery of speech and language services. Performs other duties as assigned by administration. QUALIFICATIONS Masters's degree or higher Working knowledge of Vermont's Education Quality Standards and the Common Core State Standards Holds or is eligible to hold a Vermont Teacher License with endorsement as speech language pathologist Certification with ASHA Experience evaluating students with language/speech challenges Experience providing succinct written and oral reports of student evaluation results and recommendations to team members Strong understanding of the IEP process and ability to develop and implement educational plans. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community members. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
