Assistant Store Manager (HELE Kapahulu | Full-Time) Salary Range: $21.00 - $26.65 Hourly Shift Differential: $3.00 per shift eligible Work Location: 707 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816 HELE convenience stores offer a foundational career pathway in retail with a focus on fast service, cleanliness, and customer kindness. Primary Job Responsibilities Safety Maintain a safe work environment for employees and customers. Ensure all gas pumps, lot, and store areas are clean and free of debris. Work with the Safety Team and conduct monthly mandatory meetings and trainings. Report safety incidents promptly and comply with safety policy, programs, and processes. Leadership and Personnel Management Train, develop, guide, and evaluate employees to operate the store effectively and safely. Maintain a professional and supportive image among subordinates and supervisors. Assist Store Managers with paperwork such as performance appraisals, notices, new‑hire checklists, and other accurate and timely submissions. Ensure employees receive continuous on‑the‑job and company required training to improve customer service performance and safety awareness. Motivate staff, provide feedback, and share recognition to improve performance. Set and communicate performance expectations and evaluate results. Coach potential employees for promotion to the next level. Carry out all company policies. Customer Service and Site Relationships Provide prompt and courteous customer service, including assistance at the gas pump. Accurately ring up all sales on the POS system, and comply with all cash handling procedures. Develop positive relationships with customers, vendors, and contractors. Handle all cash, monies, and inventory responsibly during shifts. Prioritize tasks to ensure the store is clean, stocked, and organized for fast service. Maintain a friendly, welcoming store environment. Monitor and meet customer needs through promotion of programs and suggestive selling. Assist customers in‑store and at the pump with product selection and equipment use. Solicit and address customer feedback promptly. Resolve complaints quickly and sincerely. Promote a safe and positive public image within the community. Grow the Kama’aina Rewards program. Business and Management Plan and manage store activities to maximize operating profit. Monitor fuel sales volume and competitor pricing to assist the pricing analyst. Monitor merchandise, food movement, and competitor offerings for product mix and pricing strategies. Maintain store layout and product displays per schematics. Execute store‑level sales promotions and support network‑wide campaigns. Control fuel, merchandise, and food inventory to ensure optimum stocking. Control operating expenses, including maintenance, utilities, supplies, and inventory loss. Prepare and submit daily sales reports accurately and promptly. Safeguard all money received and disbursed. Organize and maintain all site files, manuals, and informational materials. Receive merchandise using proper check‑in procedures. Obtain and maintain all required food and age‑restricted product certifications within two weeks of employment. Facilities Management Assist in maintaining appearance standards of paving, lighting, canopy, and other structures. Report facility issues promptly. Ensure all facilities and equipment are in safe working order. Maintain dispensing and store equipment for cleanliness and safety. Ensure required signage and decals are posted. Personnel Assistance Maintain a professional and supportive image within the team. Assist the Store Manager with teamwork building and training new associates. Assist with staffing and scheduling labor to meet demand while staying within budget. Physical Demands Stand or walk for an entire shift. Show 20/40 vision (corrective lenses acceptable) to see inventory, items, gas pumps, and related tasks. Communicate effectively in English. Follow safety procedures, including responding to alarms and contacting 911 if needed. Frequently reach overhead, use wrist motions, and finger dexterity for restocking, POS operation, payment handling, and gas pump maintenance. Frequently squat and kneel to obtain or replenish items. Push or pull up to 20 pounds using a hand‑truck. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Climb a stepladder for stocking, retrieving materials, or placing signs. Exposure to gas fumes, solvents, and occasional noise may occur. Qualifications To meet the basic qualifications for this role you must be at least 21 years old and have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States without requiring a visa, transfer, or visa sponsorship. Additional qualifications include: Valid driver’s license required. High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience in retail sales and handling cash required. Ability to perform basic math accurately. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
