Project Manager
$115k - $175kCurrent Hydro
Project Manager
At Current Hydro, we lead the way in run-of-river hydropower, utilizing the natural flow of water to produce clean, sustainable energy. Our innovative methods ensure minimal environmental impact while optimizing efficiency and reliability.
Our mission is to deliver renewable energy solutions that facilitate America's shift to a clean energy future. We are dedicated to safety, innovation, environmental stewardship, and active community engagement.
Guided by our core values, we aim to be at the forefront of renewable energy, advancing the transition to a sustainable future with our cutting-edge hydropower solutions.
Why This Role, Why Now
Hydropower has been a cornerstone of U.S. energy for more than a century. At Current Hydro, we're demonstrating its next chapter—delivering clean, reliable power by advancing run-of-river projects at existing infrastructure with minimal environmental impact. Our work creates long-life assets that generate affordable energy, support local economies, and provide lasting community benefit.
Current Hydro is entering a critical growth phase. Over the past year, we've rapidly expanded our team and are now advancing a portfolio of projects toward construction. This is a pivotal moment—where development transitions into execution—and requires strong project leadership to deliver with discipline, speed, and accountability.
As a Project Manager, you will own project delivery from development through construction, serving as the central point of accountability for scope, schedule, cost, and risk. You'll ensure continuity across licensing, engineering, and construction—driving alignment, maintaining momentum, and avoiding resets as projects move into execution. This role is about owning outcomes, not just managing task.
The Opportunity
Current Hydro is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead delivery of hydropower projects through construction. This role is responsible for coordinating across engineering, contractors, vendors, and agency stakeholders to ensure projects are executed safely, efficiently, and in line with plan.
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role with direct responsibility for delivering projects that have been in development for years. You will:
- Lead delivery of flagship projects that expand access to clean, reliable energy to the grid and the communities we serve.
- Drive execution across an integrated lifecycle, aligning licensing, design, procurement, and construction in an EPC-style delivery model.
- Ensure disciplined project performance, actively managing schedule (critical path), cost, risk, and contractor execution.
- Work directly with key stakeholders, including USACE, FERC, contractors, and local partners, to maintain alignment and resolve issues quickly.
- Deliver meaningful community impact, creating long-term jobs, economic development, and enhanced recreational access.
- Grow with the platform, taking on increasing responsibility across a pipeline of projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.
At Current Hydro, you'll be part of a lean, high-accountability team that values ownership, preparation, and execution. This is an opportunity to step into a role where expectations are high, impact is real, and the work directly contributes to the future of clean energy in the U.S.
Responsibilities
- Own full lifecycle project delivery (licensing through construction) as the single point of accountability for scope, schedule, cost, and risk, with full ownership of project status, priorities, and outcomes.
- Actively manage execution against the schedule, understanding critical path, key dependencies, and milestone drivers; ensure alignment between internal teams, third-parties, and field execution.
- Manage internal engineering and external partners (EPC-style execution), aligning design, procurement, and vendor performance with project objectives and timelines.
- Lead proactive project coordination and communication, including structured meetings, clear action tracking, and timely escalation of issues to maintain momentum and avoid surprises.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including USACE, FERC, resource agencies, contractors, and local partners, ensuring alignment and timely decision-making.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks proactively, including permitting, engineering, supply chain, construction, and regulatory risks, with a focus on protecting the critical path.
- Own project financial performance, including development of forecasts, monthly variance reporting, invoice and change order management, and ensuring cost tracking reflects actual project conditions.
- Provide clear, concise reporting to senior leadership and the Board on project status, risks, schedule performance, and financial outlook
- Mentor and support project managers and team members, reinforcing accountability, proactive ownership, and a culture of executional excellence.
- Apply technical judgment to project decisions, including interpreting designs, evaluating construction approaches, and advising on equipment, vendors, and key capital investments.
- Drive a safety-first culture, promoting incident-free project delivery across all phases of work.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or related technical field; advanced degree or PMP a plus.
- Minimum of 6 years of project delivery experience, with at least 3 years in renewable energy or infrastructure.
- Proven experience in delivering complex infrastructure projects, ideally in hydropower, water resources, or heavy civil construction.
- Strong construction execution mindset with a demonstrated commitment to safety performance.
- Working knowledge of project controls tools (MS Project, P6, or similar) and scheduling principles, including critical path management.
- Experience managing projects in small, cross-functional teams, applying practical methodologies as needed.
- High ownership and accountability mindset—proactively identifies issues, drives resolution, and looks for ways to add value.
- Intellectually curious and prepared—proactively seeks understanding, asks the right questions, and does the work to stay ahead of the issue.
- Strong communicator and collaborator, able to coordinate across internal teams, contractors, and agency stakeholders.
- Able to manage multiple priorities under pressure while maintaining attention to detail and follow-through.
- Experience working with federal agencies (e.g., USACE, FERC) preferred.
