Community Relations Specialist

Job Summary The Office of Community Relations serves as SLCC's institutional liaison to the broader Salt Lake Valley, fostering reciprocal relationships that connect communities with college resources and opportunities. Our work strengthens neighborhoods by meeting people where they are and building trust and partnerships that help community members envision and achieve their educational goals. The Outreach Specialist is a motivated, people-centered professional who represents SLCC in the community with enthusiasm, warmth, and purpose. This position is responsible for increasing awareness of postsecondary education opportunities through direct, face-to-face community engagement across the Salt Lake Valley. Primary responsibilities include tabling at community events, fairs, festivals, and public gatherings; sharing information about SLCC programs, resources, and enrollment pathways; and responding to questions from community members of all ages and backgrounds. The Outreach Specialist serves as a visible and welcoming ambassador for the College, helping to build positive, lasting relationships between SLCC and the communities we serve. The position will also support the management and daily operation of the Office of Community Relations, including but not limited to maintaining records, tracking inventory. The successful candidate is outgoing, adaptable, and mission driven. The are energized by connecting with people from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic experiences, and take pride in making higher education accessible and attainable. The role is highly active and field-based, requiring regular travel to off-campus locations throughout the valley. Student employees are expected to work 10 -15 hours per week. Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities Travel to various community locations (events, fairs, and festivals) for event set-up, staffing, presentations, and/or break down at locations across Salt Lake County Help coordinate volunteers at community events Serve as a positive role model to younger students Support the management and daily operation of the Office of Community Relations Support Community Relations staff and initiatives as needed Minimum Qualifications GPA 2.0 or higher Currently enrolled in 6 credit hours for fall semester. Currently enrolled in 6 credit hours for spring semester. Awarded Federal Work Study program Completed the FAFSA. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual or multilingual ability (English and Spanish preferred) Comfortable initiating conversations with strangers and engaging diverse audiences Warm, personable, and flexible; able to put people at ease General knowledge about Salt Lake Community College Valid drivers license SLCC Information Salt Lake Community College is Utah’s largest open-access college in the state.
