Help

You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist and be responsible for assisting with the development, execution, and sustainment / continual improvement of the unit environmental management program. The position ensures environmental program activities and operations precisely and proactively comply with applicable laws, statutes, regulations, Executive Orders (EOs), and Departmental / Agency directives, instructions, and policies; are protective of the natural, cultural, and human environments; and contribute to a safe and healthful workplace.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

• Implementating and managementing of comprehensive environmental compliance programs, including hazardous waste/materials (HAZWASTE/HAZMAT).
• Designing and delivering environmental training curriculum for Base personnel, to ensure full compliance with all state and federal regulatory standards
• Communicating with Federal, state and local regulatory officials.
• Generating reports on spills, maintains HAZMAT and HAZWASTE quantities/manifests, and prepares reports for State and Federal regulators.
• Conducting comprehensive environmental audits and site inspections to ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-09 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

• Utlizing environmental regulations to support compliance monitoring, waste disposal protocols, and/or safety checks.
• Executing routine and non-routine environmental inspections to verify adherence to permit conditions and internal policies.
• Preparing and presenting comprehensive project reports, technical documentation, and internal memos on environmental compliance issues.
• Preparing and submitting routine environmental compliance reports to state and federal agencies (e.g., EPA, state DEQ), ensuring all deadlines and requirements were met.
• Reviewing and commenting on submittals prepared by groups to assure that environmental objectives are met.
