FLEET SUPERVISOR Starting annual salary is $74,838.40 POSITION SUMMARY The Fleet Supervisor supports the Northwest Fire District in its mission to save lives, protect property, and care for our community by overseeing the day-to-day operations of Fleet Services, supervising assigned personnel, administering Fleet Services programs and maintenance operations, and ensuring the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of District vehicles and equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION Coordinate and monitor fleet maintenance activities to ensure the safety, reliability, and operational readiness of District vehicles and equipment. Monitor workload, prioritize maintenance activities, and coordinate personnel and resources to ensure efficient Fleet Services operations and timely completion of work assignments. Provide technical leadership and expertise to Fleet Services personnel. Oversee training, publications, warranties, tool control, calibrations, safety, modifications, and Fleet software programs. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Fleet goals and strategic objectives. Develop, implement, and evaluate preventive maintenance programs to maximize fleet reliability and operational readiness. Coordinate and facilitate training and professional development opportunities for Fleet Services personnel through internal and external classes, seminars, certifications, and testing. Oversee computerized fleet and equipment management systems, maintenance records, repair tracking, and customer service billing. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and District policies while supporting continuous improvement of Fleet Services operations. Responsibilities may occasionally require an adjusted work schedule to meet organizational needs, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Comply with the rules, policies, and procedures as set forth by the District. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with District policies and procedures. Direct, supervise, and develop assigned Fleet Services personnel. Plan, assign, prioritize, and evaluate the work of assigned employees. Prepare performance evaluations and provide coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback. Address employee concerns and assist in resolving personnel and operational issues. Ensure compliance with District policies, safety standards, and maintenance and operational procedures. Provide overall leadership, coordination, and accountability for assigned Fleet Services personnel. MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING High School Diploma or GED equivalency* Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in emergency vehicle, heavy truck, fleet, diesel, automotive, or related maintenance and repair work Two (2) years of experience in a supervisory role, or comparable experience supervising others Must have basic mechanic tools Required Certifications Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission (EVTCC) Fire Apparatus Technician Level I, Level II, and Level III (Master) Certifications Emergency Vehicle Technician Certification Commission (EVTCC) Ambulance Technician Level I, Level II, and Level III (Master) Certifications Individuals who do not possess the Level III Master Certifications at the time of hire must obtain them within a timeframe established by the District and maintain them throughout employment. *A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalency is required for all positions at Northwest Fire District. Must be attained within sixty (60) days of hire: Forklift Train the Trainer Course Must be attained within twelve (12) months of hire: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with tanker endorsement EPA Section 609 Motor Vehicle Air Conditioner (MVAC) Certification Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (AZDEQ) Gas and Diesel Emissions Inspector License PREFERRED Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in emergency vehicle, heavy truck, fleet, diesel, automotive, or related maintenance and repair work Driving Position: This position requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record for the pre‑employment background check process. Based on Arizona State Law, upon the date of hire and throughout the period of employment, the employee must present and possess a valid Arizona Driver’s License and maintain an acceptable driving record, see Obtaining a Driver’s License . Driving Level: Primary “Driving Level” may be None, Secondary or Primary, and refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the position. Driver’s License Type: Operator License (Class D) reference Driver License Classes and Types . An operator license allows you to drive any vehicle that does not require a motorcycle or commercial driver’s license. You must be at least 18 years of age to apply for an operator license.
