Project Superintendent
$70k - $100kGolf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA)
LaBar Golf, a premier golf course construction, renovation, and irrigation company, is seeking ambitious professionals to join their team as a Project Superintendent. Located in Bernardsville, NJ, LaBar Golf has established itself as an industry leader since 2012, working on some of America’s most prestigious courses including Winged Foot, Merion, Shinnecock Hills, and Los Angeles CountryClub. The company collaborates with award-winning architects on projects that have hosted major championships including the U.S.Open and PGA Championship. Due to continued growth and demand, LaBar Golf has openings for their Level 1 and2 Project Superintendent positions. TITLE: PROJECT SUPERINTENDENT Department: Field Operations Hiring Date: ASAP Reports to: General Superintendent Direct Reports: Yes Location: Remote Sites throughout US Travel: 90% Travel Classification: Exempt (Salary) Full-Time/Part-Time: Full-Time JOB SUMMARY The Project Superintendent is the on-site field leader responsible for directing daily construction operations and supervising project crews. This role ensures work is executed safely, efficiently, and to LaBar Golf’s premium quality standards, while managing labor, equipment, sequencing, and logistics to maintain a productive job site. Superintendents work closely with Project Managers on budgets, schedules, and reporting, while serving as the daily authority on construction means and methods in the field. They report directly to the General Superintendent for field operations and safety oversight, with a dotted-line relationship to the Project Manager assigned to the project. Unlike Project Managers and General Superintendents, who oversee multiple projects, the Project Superintendent is dedicated full-time to a single project and provides continuous on-site leadership from mobilization through completion. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES SITE ACCOUNTABILITY Lead daily site operations of assigned project, ensuring alignment with project plans, schedules, and safety protocols while maintaining high-quality workmanship from mobilization through completion. Manage all on-site staff and subcontractor crews, setting clear expectations and holding team members accountable. Identify risks and opportunities early; take proactive steps to mitigate risks and implement improvements that maintain project momentum. Serve as the daily on-site point of contact for clients, consultants, inspectors, and architects, addressing issues promptly and professionally. Provide regular progress updates and communicate challenges to the General Superintendent and Project Manager. Maintain accountability for all materials and equipment on site, ensuring timely availability and safeguarding against loss or misuse. SITE SAFETY LEADERSHIP Lead a safety-first culture by enforcing OSHA regulations, company standards, and site-specific safety requirements. Conduct daily safety meetings and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs); immediately correct unsafe behaviors. Ensure MSDS are available on site and crews have and wear required PPE. Collaborate with the Health and Safety team on specialized support as needed. PROJECT SITE PLANNING, SCHEDULING & UTILIZATION Collaborate with the Project Manager on the overall project schedule; prepare and update detailed and accurate 3-day and 3-week look-ahead schedules. Direct the effective utilization of labor, equipment, and materials; ensuring alignment with project plans and production goals; monitor work to minimize idle time, prevent bottlenecks, and reduce waste. Detect resource shortfalls or schedule risks early; escalate to the General Superintendent, implement corrective measures, and notify the Project Manager of material impacts. Develop contingency strategies for weather delays or unforeseen conditions, protecting schedule and budget. BEST PRACTICE ONSITE EXECUTION Apply and enforce best practices for excavation, grading, drainage, shaping, irrigation, grassing, and finish work. Provide hands‑on guidance for technical field challenges; escape complex design or scope issues to the General Superintendent. Lead daily site meetings and training to set production goals, quality expectations, and safety priorities. Participate in preconstruction meetings to align field operations with project management. Obtain utility mark-outs (811 and private locates) before excavation; train crews on safe digging practices and enforce compliance. Oversee equipment use; enforce safe operation and care; conduct inspections, report damage, and take corrective actions. Track equipment usage, idle time, and mobilization to support planning; identify underutilized equipment for redeployment. Manage punch lists and final walk-throughs, ensuring timely completion and maintaining a professional jobsite. TIMELY AND ACCURATE PROJECT UPDATES AND REPORTING Complete daily job logs and maintain all required field documentation, including production quantities, equipment usage, and material receipts. Submit logs, receipts, equipment records, timesheets, and invoices on time and accurately. Verify coding and timesheets weekly. Provide regular progress updates to leadership; maintain accurate field notes and ensure as-built drawings are updated throughout the project. Communicate clearly with field and office teams to identify and resolve issues affecting scope, schedule, budget, or staffing/housing. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE Directly manage assigned project crews. Manage traveling crews on remote projects, ensuring compliance with housing/travel policies and professional conduct standards. Oversee attendance, travel readiness, and jobsite performance. Address conduct or disciplinary issues promptly; escalation to leadership when needed. Mentor and develop field staff (Superintendents, Project Controls Assistants, Foremen, and crews); building a pipeline of leaders. Ensure timely reporting of all incidents or injuries; assume responsibility during emergencies until resolved. Model LaBar Golf’s core values through field leadership and decision-making. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES Proficiency in golf course construction (earthwork, irrigation, bunkers, drainage, shaping, greens, tees, grassing).
