Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic uses Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on production equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment. This role focuses on troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, including systems with PLCs and conveyors, to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Mechanic also supports equipment overhauls, new installations, and parts management to minimize downtime and maintain reliable operations.

Responsibilities

• Use Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in the execution of all daily work activities to support safe and compliant operations.
• Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment to reduce unplanned downtime and extend asset life.
• Perform corrective maintenance on assets, ensuring timely resolution of equipment issues to support continuous operations.
• Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform immediate repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, including PLC-controlled equipment and conveyors.
• Conduct mechanical adjustments and repairs to restore equipment to proper operating condition.
• Overhaul existing equipment as needed to improve performance, reliability, and safety.
• Participate in new equipment installations, including mechanical and electrical setup, testing, and commissioning.
• Generate parts requests and follow all required MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) procedures to help ensure adequate inventory levels.
• Monitor the daily work order load in the maintenance queue and execute assigned preventative and corrective work orders according to the established schedule.
• Create follow-up notifications for any additional corrective work identified during inspections or repairs to ensure issues are fully resolved.
• Communicate with the planner and parts coordinator when material availability issues arise or when parts are needed to complete work orders.
• Provide clear verbal communication on high-priority maintenance items that may place operations or equipment at risk, ensuring timely escalation and response.
• Apply failure analysis techniques to identify root causes of equipment issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

Essential Skills

• 2+ years of industrial plant maintenance experience, including electrical repairs, conveyor maintenance, and mechanical maintenance.
• Hands-on experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in a manufacturing facility.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
• Experience performing electrical repairs, including work on equipment that may be controlled by PLCs.
• Ability to perform mechanical adjustments and repairs on production machinery and conveyors.
• Experience applying Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in daily maintenance activities.
• Experience with failure analysis to identify root causes of equipment failures.
• Ability to manage and execute preventative and corrective maintenance work orders in a structured maintenance system.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with planners, parts coordinators, and other team members regarding work status and priorities.
• High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment with moving mechanical equipment.
• Familiarity with PLC-based equipment and automated systems.
• Experience using maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) procedures for parts ordering and inventory control.
• Comfort working with structured maintenance schedules and documentation, including creating follow-up notifications for additional work.
• Attention to detail and a strong focus on safety, reliability, and equipment performance.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond to urgent maintenance needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts. You will often work in wet or humid conditions that are not related to weather. At times, you may experience exposure to extreme heat or cold, as well as rapid changes in temperature. The environment contains flour dust, so you must be able to tolerate working in an area where airborne particulates are present. The noise level is usually moderate but can increase depending on production activities and equipment in operation. You will work around production machinery, conveyors, and other industrial equipment, following safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment as required by site policies.

This is a Permanent position based out of Chaska, MN.

The pay range for this position is $64480.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
