Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring NIHSS certification and at least 9 months of travel experience.

Details

• Work in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit of a hospital environment
• Neurological critical care patient population including stroke, TBI, and post-neurosurgical cases
• 1:4 patient ratio
• May float to stepdown unit
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-7:00
• 13-week assignment length
• Meditech charting experience preferred but not required

Requirements

• Active KY RN license or Compact RN license in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA certifications only, obtained within 2 years of start date)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• At least 9 months of travel nursing experience required
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a certified stroke center critical care unit preferred
• CRRT experience highly preferred
• Competency in stroke signs/symptoms assessment (e.g., BE-FAST)
• Bedside dysphagia screening competency required
• IV-tPA administration and post-tPA monitoring competency required
• Familiarity with current stroke guidelines and performance measures for Acute Ischemic and Hemorrhagic strokes
• Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management
• Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients preferred
• Experience with EVD, ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery management preferred
• Experience managing traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury patients preferred
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips required
• Continuous IV sedation and neuromuscular blockade management required
• FloTrac/Vigileo monitoring experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to neurological ICU patients including stroke, TBI, and post-neurosurgical cases
• Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure
• Perform infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE protocols
• Interpret and manage cardiac dysrhythmias and obtain 12-lead EKGs
• Must reside outside a 65-mile radius of the facility to qualify for the travel position, as local candidates are not accepted
• RTO must be submitted for approval as part of the application process
