AI Infrastructure Engineer - Emerging Tech

Salary: $130,000 - 170,000 per year Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Center Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
- At least 5 years of experience in data center infrastructure, AI/HPC infrastructure, power systems engineering, cooling technologies, or advanced infrastructure engineering.
- Strong grasp of emerging AI compute technologies and their infrastructure impacts.
- Ability to evaluate complex technical systems and convert findings into practical engineering and infrastructure strategies.
- Preferred: Masters degree and/or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Energy Systems, or a related discipline.
- Preferred: Experience in hyperscale or colocation data center environments.
- Preferred: Knowledge of GPU infrastructure and AI workload behavior.
- Preferred: Familiarity with utility coordination and energy systems.
- Preferred: Understanding of high-density cooling technologies.
- Preferred: Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure development initiatives.
- Preferred: PE license or equivalent advanced technical credential.

- Support the VP of Technology Engineering & Innovation in assessing emerging AI infrastructure technologies and future-ready data center strategies.
- Examine AI workload patterns such as training versus inference, GPU utilization, dynamic demand changes, rack-level power variation, and networking or latency needs.
- Evaluate how AI workload behavior affects infrastructure resilience, scalability, efficiency, and operating design.
- Develop technical guidance and infrastructure strategies that support future AI deployments.
- Analyze current and next-generation AI compute platforms, including NVIDIA GPUs, ARM-based platforms, custom AI accelerators and ASICs, optical networking and switching, and hyperscaler-designed AI chips.
- Assess how evolving chip architectures influence rack density, power consumption, cooling, electrical distribution, mechanical systems, space planning, and development standards.
- Model present and future AI rack power density trends, including existing high-density deployments, near-term AI loads, and future ultra-dense cluster scenarios.
- Evaluate the long-term effect of emerging chip architectures on energy efficiency and data center design standards.
- Support conceptual and detailed design work for AI-ready data center infrastructure.
- Help develop long-term roadmaps for high-density AI deployments, liquid cooling adoption, modular infrastructure, utility coordination, grid-parallel and microgrid solutions, and future AI campus development.
- Review how AI infrastructure evolution affects greenfield builds, facility retrofits, construction methods, scalability, and campus master planning.
- Work with engineering, development, and construction teams to create scalable AI-ready infrastructure standards and deployment models.
- Partner with the Energy Strategy team to assess utility constraints, interconnection requirements, grid limitations, load fluctuations, power quality, resiliency, and onsite generation or distributed energy options.
- Support analysis of grid-parallel and islanded microgrid designs, fuel cells, BESS, bridge power, natural gas generation, and renewable integration opportunities.
- Evaluate how AI workloads influence substation development, transmission planning, utility coordination, energy efficiency, and PUE optimization.
- Assess how future AI compute growth will shape utility planning and power infrastructure strategy.
- Analyze thermal management solutions such as air cooling, direct-to-chip liquid cooling, immersion cooling, rear-door heat exchangers, and hybrid cooling architectures.
- Evaluate the implications of ultra-high-density AI deployments for mechanical design, water use, cooling scalability, heat rejection, thermal resilience, and future cooling standards.
- Review cooling technologies and infrastructure needs as AI rack densities rise.
- Engage with vendors, OEMs, utilities, and strategic partners across power generation, UPS systems, electrical infrastructure, cooling technologies, liquid cooling platforms, AI compute infrastructure, and networking and optical interconnect technologies.
- Lead technical evaluations of next-generation technologies for reliability, scalability, energy efficiency, sustainability, AI performance, construction complexity, and operational resilience.
- Support proof-of-concept work, pilot deployments, and technology benchmarking efforts.
- Prepare executive-level recommendations on adopting emerging AI infrastructure technologies and strategic engineering standards.
- Collaborate with design engineering, construction, operations, energy strategy, procurement, utilities, technology partners, and external engineering firms and consultants.
- Support strategic planning efforts and executive technical presentations.
- Help develop future infrastructure standards and innovation roadmaps for AI-enabled data center platforms.
