Optometrist/ Center Director - McKinney, TX
Diagnoses, manages, and treats conditions and diseases of the eye and visual system; works closely with Ophthalmologists as a team member. Examines eyes and the visual system, diagnoses chief complaints, prescribes corrective lenses, and provides treatment or recommendations to Ophthalmologists for surgical evaluation. May prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions, such as glaucoma. In addition to clinical responsibilities, serves as a Center Director responsible for strengthening the practice's relationships with area eye care providers, especially optometrists, and enhancing the internal workings of the practice so patients and referring providers experience timely, coordinated, high-quality medical and surgical eye care. Represents the practice as a trusted medical and surgical referral-based eye care organization committed to patient-centered care, clinical collaboration, and service to the broader eye care community.
General Summary Of Duties:
- Conduct eye exams using optometric equipment and general diagnostic interpretation
- Diagnose and treat ocular disease and disorders
- Prescribes medication to treat eye diseases, removes foreign bodies from the eye, and analyses test results and develops appropriate treatment plans
- Prescribes therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision
- Provides pre-and post-operative care
- Prescribes eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids
- Develops and maintains strong professional relationships with referring physicians, optometrists, ophthalmologists, and other healthcare providers in the community to support collaborative patient care, physician referrals, and practice growth
- Represents the practice positively within the medical community and actively participates in relationship-building and outreach activities with community healthcare providers
- Serves as Center Director by strengthening relationships with area eye care providers, particularly optometrists, and supporting the practice's reputation as a trusted medical and surgical referral destination
- Develops and maintains regular communication with referring optometrists and other eye care providers to promote professional collaboration, appropriate referrals, continuity of care, and timely feedback regarding shared patients
- Identifies opportunities to improve internal clinic workflows, provider communication, scheduling access, referral intake, surgical coordination, and follow-up processes to better serve patients and referring providers
- Collaborates with physicians, clinical leadership, management, and staff to ensure patients referred for medical or surgical eye care receive coordinated, responsive, and professional service from initial referral through follow-up
- Participates in appropriate outreach, education, and relationship-building activities that support the needs of area eye care providers and the community while maintaining professional, ethical, and compliant referral practices
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Doctorate in Optometry; prefers at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Certification/Licensure: Certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) and licensed by the State of Texas
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution
- Preference for added training in a refractive fellowship program
- Meets all applicable state and federal requirements for prescribing therapeutic medications
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills
- Ability to establish trust and build strong, long-term relationships with patients and healthcare providers
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Ophthalmologists and multidisciplinary healthcare teams
- Ability and willingness to develop professional relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers in the community
- Ability to lead practice-level initiatives that improve referral coordination, provider communication, patient access, and the overall experience of patients and referring eye care providers
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with physicians, optometrists, clinical teams, management, and community providers

Conditions Of Employment:

- May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, if applicable
