Automation Senior Engineer II

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks an Automation Senior Engineer II to manage and implement control systems for GMP manufacturing equipment in Boston. The role involves equipment upgrades, PLC/HMI configuration, network integration, data historian management, and cross-functional collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
Responsibilities
- Support automation upgrades and modifications to improve manufacturing equipment data integrity and reliability
- Configure, troubleshoot, test, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, and automation components
- Maintain OT asset inventories, software versions, patching records, and equipment lifecycle documentation
- Integrate equipment systems into manufacturing networks and configure data historian management
- Coordinate contractor activities, provide technical direction, and escalate risks to engineering leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 8 years industrial automation or manufacturing controls engineering experience
- PLC and HMI-based control systems experience in manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, validation, and change control practices
- Proficiency with Siemens or Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMI applications
- Experience with Kepware drivers and AVEVA PI Historian
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration abilities
Compensation: $124,000 - $186,000 base
