Job Description

The Value Stream Manager – Fabrication leads the fabrication value stream, providing hands-on leadership for welding, fabrication, and engineered-to-order manufacturing operations. This role focuses on exceeding operational KPI targets, strengthening company culture, and building a robust talent pipeline. The position drives continuous improvement in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth to support the organization’s operational excellence journey and overall profitability.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage team members within the fabrication value stream to achieve and exceed operational KPI targets in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth.
• Provide day-to-day leadership for welding, fabrication, and engineered-to-order manufacturing operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
• Advance and reinforce a positive company culture by modeling solution-focused behavior, accountability, and collaboration.
• Develop and maintain a strong talent pipeline through coaching, mentoring, and performance development of team members.
• Conduct 30/60/90-day reviews for new hires to ensure successful onboarding and integration into the team.
• Perform annual performance reviews for all direct reports and provide constructive feedback to support growth and development.
• Address performance issues in alignment with company policies and the performance commitment handbook.
• Approve vacation schedules and manage time-off requests to maintain adequate staffing and production coverage.
• Coordinate and communicate overtime requirements based on business needs, ensuring operational targets are met.
• Create, update, and maintain a cross-training matrix to build flexibility and resilience within the team.
• Collaborate with other Value Stream Managers to share single-point resources and align priorities across value streams.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives using lean principles, Six Sigma tools, and value stream mapping to optimize processes.
• Lead problem-solving activities by using data, collaboration, and innovation to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
• Serve as a change agent by inspiring team members to embrace improvements and new ways of working.
• Apply working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication methods, weld quality standards, and weld symbols to support production and quality outcomes.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure products meet customer and internal requirements.
• Use financial analysis to interpret financial statements, understand gross margins, and identify budgetary areas of focus.
• Utilize software tools such as Microsoft Office, Teams, Project, Minitab, and business intelligence platforms to manage operations and report performance.
• Promote and enforce safety practices within the office and manufacturing environment, with moderate responsibility for the safety of others.
• Exercise independent judgment and discretion based on experience, product knowledge, equipment capabilities, and service requirements.

Essential Skills

• 7–10 years of experience in manufacturing leadership, welding, metal fabrication, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
• Proven leadership ability to guide teams through adversity while maintaining a positive, solution-focused attitude.
• Strong problem-solving skills using data, collaboration, and innovation, grounded in lean principles.
• Demonstrated experience as a change agent, leading and sustaining operational improvements.
• Working knowledge of welding processes and fabrication methods, including weld quality standards and weld symbols.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and engineered-to-order documentation.
• Financial analysis skills, including the ability to navigate financial statements and understand gross margin and budget drivers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and collaboration tools such as Teams.
• Experience in operations planning, manufacturing engineering, operations management, and production management within a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience with continuous improvement, quality management systems, and root cause analysis.
• Ability to work effectively in a combined office and manufacturing environment with prevalent dust and noise.
• Capability to lift up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 25–50 pounds, as required by the role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering is strongly preferred.
• Pursuit of an advanced degree is desired.
• Experience in a leadership role within a custom business or engineered-to-order environment is strongly desired.
• AWS Certified Welding Supervisor (CWS) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is preferred.
• Lean manufacturing training and certification are preferred.
• Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification, with demonstrated ability to use statistical tools, is preferred.
• Experience with value stream mapping is a plus.
• Formal leadership training and certification are a plus.
• Knowledge of Power BI or similar business intelligence tools is desired.
• Familiarity with MIG and TIG welding, robotics, quality measurement systems, and industrial equipment is beneficial.
• Experience in implementation of continuous improvement projects and project engineering in a manufacturing setting.
• Background in safety training, quality control, and quality management systems is advantageous.

Work Environment

This role is performed in a combined office and manufacturing environment where dust and noise are prevalent, and the facility is non-conditioned. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. EST, with overtime coordinated and communicated based on business needs. The position involves moderate responsibility for the safety of others and may include moderate levels of stress due to operational demands and decision-making responsibilities. Physical requirements may include lifting up to 10 pounds frequently (such as files, ledgers, and small tools), lifting up to 44 pounds with frequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 25 pounds, and lifting up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting or carrying of objects up to 50 pounds. Employees use a variety of industrial equipment and computer-based tools, including Microsoft Office, Teams, Project, Minitab, and business intelligence platforms, in a production-focused environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
