What your day looks like

By 7:45 a.m., you’re on site in Columbus, greeting the GC’s superintendent and lining up your field walk. By mid-morning, you’ve verified energized work controls align with NFPA 70E, captured observations in a concise report, and briefed the Owner/Client on risk rankings for the day’s high-voltage tasks. After lunch, you’re facilitating a quick root cause review of a near-miss, updating the corrective actions, and ensuring documentation is squared away for timesheets and daily logs. You close the day ready to do it again—consistent, visible, and unflappable.

Excel Staffing is supporting the construction of a mission-critical data center in Columbus, OH. We’re seeking a polished Safety Specialist to act as the Owner’s on-site eyes and ears for safety, partnering closely with Project Managers while providing steady oversight of the General Contractor’s practices.

• 1099 contract
• $50.00–$55.00 per hour
• $500 weekly travel/lodging allowance for days worked when residing outside a 75-mile radius (NO PER DIEM)
• Estimated duration: 6–12 months with potential extension (project spans 12+ months)
• Start: mid-July

• Onsite in Columbus, Ohio
• Monday–Friday, 8 hours/day (40 hours/week); no overtime

• Serve as the Owner’s on-site safety representative, observing and engaging with the GC on safe execution.
• Conduct hazard identification, risk ranking, and verification of safe work methods.
• Oversee electrical safety practices with emphasis on NFPA 70E and high-voltage controls.
• Support incident and near-miss investigations with clear root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Maintain documentation: daily reports, safety correspondence, and weekly timesheets using digital tools.
• Communicate effectively with the Owner/Client and externally to the Project GC; collaborate closely with Project Managers.
• Align to occupational H&S management systems (ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001) and regional regulations.

• Mission-critical (data center) experience is required.
• Bachelor’s in Health & Safety preferred; alternatively, 5–10 years of safety construction experience in data centers if no degree.
• Minimum 7 years of data center experience; if you do not have data center experience, 10 years of overall construction safety experience is required.
• High-voltage exposure and strong electrical safety competency; NFPA 70E proficiency.
• Demonstrated strength in hazard/risk assessment, safe work method statements, and post-incident root cause analysis.
• Fluency in the local language plus proficiency in English (native or secondary).
• Working knowledge of regional H&S standards and regulations; competency in ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of clear and concise safety correspondence.
• Personable, polished, and confident working with Project Managers; leadership presence required.
• Comfortable completing daily paperwork and weekly timesheets with digital tools; tech-savvy.
• Able to remain available for up to four weeks prior to onboarding.
