Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Manager Senior, Communications, leads the college's strategic communications and storytelling efforts to enhance institutional reputation, engagement, and student success. Oversees the development and execution of integrated communications strategies across digital, print, media, and events, ensuring consistent messaging aligned with the college's mission and values. Provides leadership to communications staff and collaborates across the college to support recruitment, retention, and community engagement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Leads, mentors, and inspires a team of communications professionals, including writers, designers, content creators, multimedia and event support staff; establishes clear goals, efficient workflows, provides feedback, and fosters professional growth

2. Hires, onboards, trains, and develops staff while cultivating a culture of excellence, collaboration, and exceptional customer service

3. Manages budget planning, monitoring, and purchasing activities for the communications department

4. Leads the team that executes comprehensive communications, branding, and public relations strategies that advance the college's mission, values, and priorities. Prepares and delivers regular communications reports for the Executive Director

5. Oversees content strategy, planning, creation, and publication across the website, social media, digital newsletters, and event communications; ensures consistency in messaging, branding, and audience engagement. Identify and champion powerful stories that spotlight student success, faculty innovation, staff dedication, and alumni impact

6. Analyzes performance metrics, including engagement, reach, and audience sentiment to continuously refine strategies and optimize user experience

7. Manages the full life cycle of the college's newsletter and communications hub, including content planning, editorial direction, and final production

8. Directs video strategy and production, prioritizing projects aligned with institutional goals and managing resources and timelines

9. Builds and maintains relationships with campus stakeholders to promote programs, achievements, and initiatives; partners with faculty, department leaders, executives, and the Executive Director to support student success, recruitment and retention, and event communications

10. Manages vendor relationships and contracts; oversees web content management system administration and work request processes; handles ad hoc projects and data-driven reporting as needed

11. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters and record boxes. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment

• Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

• Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree and 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 3 years of experience in public relations, digital marketing, or communications

• At least 3 years of experience coordinating and directing special events

• Experience in higher education structure, community colleges, or agencies that fund higher education

• American Marketing Association Certification (s)

Salary

Hiring salary range is $72,821 - $83,745.

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
