You will translate requirements, loads, interfaces, and manufacturing constraints into practical structural designs and controlled product definition. This position will be based onsite at our South Burlington, VT office location, our Raleigh, NC office. Remote candidates may be considered for a hybrid role, with monthly visits to South Burlington, VT for in person work.How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:Develop primary and secondary metallic, composite, and hybrid airframe componentsCreate and maintain three-dimensional CAD, drawings, and controlled definition for structure, joints, interfaces, and installationsTranslate requirements, loads, geometry, systems interfaces, and manufacturing constraints into structural design requirementsSupport structural layout, configuration, and interface trades across airframe componentsPerform preliminary sizing and hand calculations; collaborate with Stress to mature and substantiate designsDesign for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, maintainability, repair, weight, cost, and scheduleSupport design reviews, product release, manufacturing, build, and test issue resolutionCoordinate with Stress, Loads, Aerodynamics, Dynamics, Materials and Processes, Systems, Manufacturing, and suppliersMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field2+ years of aircraft structural design or related aerospace product-development experienceProficiency developing aerospace hardware in CATIA, 3DEXPERIENCE, or a comparable CAD environmentWorking knowledge of load paths, structural sizing, composite or metallic design, joints, fasteners, GD&T, and configuration controlExperience producing detailed CAD, drawings, or controlled product definition and supporting hardware manufactureAbility to make sound design decisions, document assumptions, and communicate risks and interfaces clearlyMust be a US Person to be considered for the roleAbove and Beyond Qualifications:Aircraft structural design experience on wing, fuselage, empennage, control-surface, high-lift, propulsion-installation, or other airframe componentsExperience with both composite and metallic airframe structures or supplier design packagesExperience supporting prototype build, structural test, flight test, airworthiness, certification, or manufacturing introductionPhysical Demands and Work Environment:This role requires extended computer and CAD work and regular work in office, laboratory, manufacturing, and hangar environments. Occasional travel and use of standard personal protective equipment may be required.The wage listed here reflects our best faith estimate for this role.
