Loss Control Inspector

Responsibilities Performs building inspections to ensure compliance with all state of Indiana fire codes, building codes, and NFPA standards; resolves code issues during construction and maintenance. Performs pre‑fire planning and interprets blueprints for new construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and standards. Conducts training classes for students, faculty, and staff on fire prevention subjects when requested; maintains records of inspections, training, and certifications. Responds to emergency alarms on campus; provides fire alarm and suppression system support in coordination with responding emergency crews. Provides guidance to fire alarm technicians and/or less experienced support staff; may be required to travel occasionally to other campuses to provide additional support for loss‑control investigation efforts. May travel to other campuses to support other Loss Control Inspectors. Education Required: Associate's degree. Preferred: Bachelor's degree (preferably in fire science, public safety, or a related field). Work Experience 2 years of building code inspection/enforcement and/or fire safety experience. Licenses and Certificates Required: Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire. Preferred: Indiana Fire Inspector I and II certifications upon date of hire. Skills Proficient written and verbal communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Highly thorough and dependable. Ability to build strong customer relationships. Physical Requirements: Move objects weighing a minimum of 25 pounds; ascend and descend ladders and stairs. Work Hours: Some work assignments outside of normal hours, including evenings and weekends for fire drills, sporting events, special events, or other occasions as required. Location: Bloomington, Indiana. Compensation: $26.29 per hour.
