The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul-destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.Reporting to the Company’s General Counsel, Corporate Counsel will support the legal, business, and strategic real estate and corporate initiatives of the Company. This role will serve as a trusted legal advisor on a broad range of corporate transactional and commercial real estate matters, helping to drive transactions from inception through closing while providing practical, business-oriented legal guidance. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where they can solve complex legal and business challenges.ResponsibilitiesLead and support commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, land use, and development projectsDraft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, licenses, development agreements, and other real estate-related contractsConduct legal due diligence, including title and survey review, zoning and land use analysis, and assessment of environmental and regulatory mattersAdvise business stakeholders on real estate risks, transaction structures, and legal strategies to support company objectivesCoordinate with title companies, surveyors, and government agencies throughout the transaction processSupport permitting, entitlement, and land use matters, as applicableDevelop and maintain standard agreement templates, internal processes, and legal playbooks to improve efficiency and scalabilityEnsure compliance with applicable real estate laws, regulations, and corporate policiesProvide legal support on general commercial matters and other projects as neededBasic QualificationsJuris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law schoolActive license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (Tennessee preferred)3–5 years of experience practicing commercial real estate law at a law firm and/or in-house legal departmentDemonstrated experience managing sophisticated real estate transactions from initial negotiation through closingPreferred Skills and ExperienceStrong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skillsExperience with commercial leasing, acquisitions and dispositions, financing, and development transactionsFamiliarity with title, survey, zoning, land use, and permitting issuesAbility to identify legal risks while providing practical, business-focused solutionsExcellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple transactions simultaneouslyStrong written and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detailAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional business teams in a fast-paced environmentBenefitsWe offer employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan, paid holidays, paid vacation, and a competitive amount of equity for all permanent employees.The Boring Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with The Boring Company is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.
