POSITION SUMMARY :
Provide management oversight of accounting, including budget tracking, analysis and reporting on agency program operations. Ensure appropriate processes and procedures are effective and responsive to support program implementation. Collaborate across the organization to educate all staff levels related to finance and accounting procedures and to explore how the finance function can more effectively support program operations and general administration.
Directly manage the payroll, accounts payable/receivables, procurement and general ledger functions. Collaborate regularly with the CFO, President and CEO and senior leadership to enhance and integrate effective accounting practices.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
When you join our finance/accounting team, some of the essential work and responsibilities you will manage and handle will include:
- Provide management oversight for all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Payroll, Grant Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
- Monitor internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP and non-profit accounting standards (FASB, IRS regulations) and Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards.
- Serve as financial lead to coordinate and provide financial related materials for audit activity.
- Oversee financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; provide financial reporting for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
- Manage program cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program senior leadership and CFO; continuously collaborate with program management to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
- Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and systems.
- Supervise and mentor finance staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and excellent customer service.
- Maintain & modify expenditure tracking tools to help program managers expend funds in compliance with program requirements and accurately report grant expenditures.
- Manage the procurement process for contract expenditures to comply with program spending authorizations and the Uniform Guidance for Federal Awards.
- Provide analytical support and training to program managers to increase their financial acumen and budget management knowledge.

- Bachelor's degree in accounting required
- CPA preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in non-profit financial management and fund accounting required.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting standards.
- Proficiency in clearly communicating information about finance and accounting issues to non-accountants and individuals with varying levels of financial expertise.
- Significant experience with allocations of shared costs preferred.
- Strong quantitative analysis capabilities, with the ability to read, analyze, interpret and explain complex financial data.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated & confident
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Schedule and personal transportation flexibility to travel to staff and organization meetings in Houston.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Demonstrated experience with email/communications/scheduling software (Outlook)
- Non- Profit accounting software experience (Sage Intacct) preferred, but not required
- Experience with AI platforms (e.g., CoPilot, ChatGPT) beneficial
- Prior experience with video platforms (e.g., TEAMS, Zoom) and tablets helpful
- Primarily remote, however requires Houston-based residence to participate in staff, leadership, and organizational meetings
- Must be able to work a 40 hour, Monday – Friday schedule
- Schedule flexibility to accommodate occasional weekday evening hours and weekend hours as department or organization events necessitate
- Must have reliable, personal transportation
- A valid Texas Driver's License, and current vehicle insurance coverage

THE PERKS
- Mileage reimbursement paid at IRS rate is available for eligible business travel
- Work hours : flexible scheduling. Primarily remote work at home.
- Compensation : This is an Exempt, Salaried, Full-Time position. Pay range, based on experience, is $72k - $82k annualized. Paid bi-weekly on Fridays.
- Discretionary Annual Merit Adjustments : Increase to base pay rate is based on the prior year's performance.
- Health and Supplemental Insurance : HDHP medical option that includes $1400/year employer-paid contribution to a Health Savings Account (HSA), prorated based on hire date. Also, a lower deductible PPO medical option. Other insurance options: Dental, Vision, Voluntary Life/AD&D, Accident, and Critical Illness, AFLAC Cancer and Life policies. Employer-paid STD, LTD, Basic Life/AD&D insurance. First of month after hire eligibility.
- Retirement Plan : 1:1 employer matching contribution up to 6%. Eligible for employer match after 90-days from start date.
