Driver - Class BWork Schedule: 7:00 Am to 4:00 PM (with overtime)The Driver - Class B contributes to the efficient operation of the Branch Office. The driver will deliver Wismettac products to customers. Driver - Class B will perform other warehouse-related duties, which include but are not limited to loading and unloading trucks when required, picking and loading materials to/from trucks, pallets, and other transport vehicles, securing loads and pre and post-trip vehicle inspections, and collecting payments from customers and forwarding payments to the office department.Essential Job FunctionsResponsible for driving delivery trucks (with a weight of more than or equal to 26,000 pounds) in an efficient and safe manner.Deliver the company's products over established routes or within an established territory.Load or unload the merchandise at the customer's place of business. Be able to load and unload items weighing 50 pounds.Develop and maintain effective relationships between the Company and the customer.Provide a positive representation of the company by demonstrating safe, responsible driving practices.May require interstate driving.Operate company vehicles in a safe manner by applying knowledge and skills in maneuvering vehicles at varying speeds in difficult situations such as heavy traffic, climate weather, or in tight loading dock areas.Perform pre-trip, in-route, and post-trip inspections on equipment. Ensure equipment defects are reported immediately.Keep tractor interior clean and orderly.Promptly report all accidents involving driver or company equipment and any delays due to customers, breakdowns, weather or traffic conditions, or other emergencies, or any irregularities relating to pick up or delivery of freight.Submit all paperwork and documents required by Federal D.O.T. and Wismettac in a timely manner.Have customers sign receipts for goods and receive payment for the merchandise if there is a cash-on-delivery arrangement.Turn in receipts, payments, records of deliveries made, and any reports on mechanical problems with their trucks.Perform and follow all Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Section 111 (Code of Federal Regulations 21 CFR Parts 1 and 11) and Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food guidelines set by Logistics Headquarters.Experience/ Training/ EducationHigh School or GED2 years of recent commercial driving experienceExperience using E-log books computer/tablet systemExperience using a forklift and electric pallet jack.Must have a Class B driver's licenseKnowledge, Skills, and AbilityKnowledge of safe driving practices and methods.Knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection, and maintenance.Knowledge of Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Section 111 (Code of Federal Regulations 21 CFR Parts 1 and 11) and Sanitary Transportation of Human and Animal Food guidelines.Require considerable and strenuous physical exertion so incumbents should be able to lift heavy objects over 50 pounds.Skill in using E-log books computer/tablet systemAbility to conduct investigations of accidents.Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you.Ability to read, write, and speak English.Ability to maintain accurate records.Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.Positive work history and ability to maintain solid attendance.Available to work extended hours and possible weekendsMust be able to read and write and have the mental capacity to manually complete required paperwork and reportsMust have the desire to serve customers and support the warehouse departmentMust be able to accurately read gauges and dialsMust be able to enter and exit the vehicle's cab using footholds and handholdsMust be able to spend 80% to 90% of the day sitting and drivingMust be able to bend and lift freight when necessaryMust be able to accomplish hand, arm, leg, and foot motions necessary to drive the tractor and twisting, turning, and bending needed to load/unload the trailer.Working Conditions:Drivers work long hours, including common evenings. The work still can be strenuous, even though mechanical materials-handling equipment is employed to move heavy items. The shift could start late at night or early in the morning. Although most drivers have regular routes, some have different routes each day. Many local truck drivers, particularly driver/sales workers, load and unload their trucks. This requires considerable lifting, carrying, and walking each day. Local truck drivers, unlike long-distance drivers, usually return home in the evening; and may be exposed to heat, cold, dust, irritants, etc. Some Drivers may handle long-distance driving and may not return home for 2 or 4 days depending on some branch offices. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment including but not limited to steel-toed boots. The typical workweek is Monday through Friday (standard 40 hours per week); however, evening, night shift, overtime, and weekend hours are common in some branch offices.
